Following our visit to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery last week, we are pleased to advertise a short recital there at 5:30 on Monday 23rd March. Kelly Yeung (St. Mary’s Balham) will play music by Mendelssohn, Franck and Vierne.

The hospital is in Queen Square WC1 3BG

The society is making an unusual visit this evening, to a hospital rather than a church. The chapel of the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery has a Grade II listed Spurden Rutt organ, originally dating from 1938 and completely restored by Mander in 2024. The organ plays a role in music therapy at the hospital and provides an opportunity for staff and patients to enjoy live music. We are grateful to the organ curator Claire Kitay for hosting us. As both an organist and music therapist, she is sure to have some fascinating insights for us in what will undoubtedly be a most enjoyable evening.

I came across this organ a few weeks ago at St Mary’s, Harlow. JJ Binns organ that had been moved to Harlow in the 60s. Fantastic sound is a good acoustic, but lots of it no longer working, and lots of air escaping. Let’s hope the church spend some money on it…

Does anyone know anything about the organ at the catholic church in Epping? NPOR suggests it’s a Walker, but I doubt it. Swell is mechanical and Great is electric. Mostly extension. Not very exciting to play but perfect for the building. My guess is Brian Bunting; who was a local builder around the time the church was built…

A rare opportunity to hear this organ in concert and Ian in London.

Join us to celebrate the 160th birthday of our wonderful Hill & Son organ “Betty” and the 10th anniversary of her full rebuild by Nicholsons of Malvern (2015), with a recital by the incredible Prof. Dr. Ian Tracey, titular organist of Liverpool Cathedral and world-renowned concert organist.

Can anyone guess the church?

The society visited St. Gabriel’s this afternoon and were given a very warm welcome by the organist, David King, who played a few pieces for us to demonstrate the full range of the recently refurbished organ. Another very enjoyable event.
