Women are missing from government homelessness data, far too often 👤
In six local authorities in England, official government snapshots recorded zero women sleeping rough.
The 2025 Women’s Rough Sleeping Census identified 162 women in those same areas.
This alone reveals just how important it is that women’s homelessness is taken more seriously by the government, who continue to undercount women, therefore misrepresenting the realities for women sleeping rough.
The Women’s Rough Sleeping Census 2025: Missing Women survey took place between September and October 2025, spans 100 local authorities in England, and is led by Single Homeless Project and Solace Women's Aid alongside Crisis and Change Grow Live.
Our Glass Door Homeless Charity colleagues contributed to this work, completing surveys during the week of the census and collecting rich data in the three months prior.
We are proud to have contributed to this important, and stark, research, and can only hope that it keeps building momentum so that policymakers recognise and respond effectively to the needs and experiences of women experiencing homelessness.
