ব্রিটিশ বাংলাদেশ চেম্বার অব কমার্স অ্যান্ড ইন্ডাস্ট্রি (বিবিসিসিআই)-এর বার্ষিক সাধারণ সভা (এজিএম) ২০২৫ গত বুধবার ৩ ডিসেম্বর লন্ডনের একটি অভিজাত হলে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। ডিরেক্টর জেনারেল ব্যারিস্টার দেওয়ান মেহেদীর পরিচালনায় এবং সংগঠনের প্রেসিডেন্ট জনাব রফিক হায়দারের সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠিত সভার শুরুতে পবিত্র কোরআন থেকে তেলাওয়াত করেন মাওলানা ওয়াহীদ সিরাজী।

সভায় বিবিসিসিআই-এর ডিরেক্টর, লাইফ মেম্বার, সাধারণ সদস্যসহ বিভিন্ন রিজিয়নের নেতৃবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন। জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ এ অনুষ্ঠানে সর্বসম্মতভাবে বিবিসিসিআই-এর সংবিধান সংশোধন প্রস্তাব গৃহীত হয়। পাশাপাশি বিভিন্ন রিজিয়নের সভাপতি ও সাধারণ সম্পাদকদের সম্মাননা অ্যাওয়ার্ড এবং সংগঠনের লাইফ মেম্বারদের সম্মাননা সনদ প্রদান করা হয়।

মধ্যাহ্নভোজের পর বিকেল ৩টায় মূল কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়। ডিরেক্টর জেনারেল ব্যারিস্টার দেওয়ান মেহেদী সংগঠনের বার্ষিক প্রতিবেদন উপস্থাপন করেন। তিনি বিগত বছরের সার্বিক সাফল্য, চ্যালেঞ্জ ও ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনা তুলে ধরেন এবং ফাইন্যান্স ডিরেক্টর জনাব হেলাল খান আয়-ব্যয়ের বিস্তারিত হিসাব, প্রকল্পভিত্তিক ব্যয় এবং আগামীর আর্থিক পরিকল্পনা উপস্থাপন করেন।

সভায় বক্তব্য দেন বিবিসিসিআই-এর সাবেক সভাপতি, ডিরেক্টরসহ বিভিন্ন জ্যেষ্ঠ ব্যক্তিবর্গ। তাঁদের মধ্যে ছিলেন প্রফেসর শাহগীর বখত ফারুক, বশীর আহমেদ BEM, সাইদুর রহমান রেনু, আহমেদুস সামাদ চৌধুরী JP, মুহাইমিন মিয়া, আবদুল হামিদ চৌধুরী, মোহিব চৌধুরী, আবুল হায়াত নুরুজ্জামান, আতাউর রহমান কুটি, মঈন উদ্দিন, মিসবাহ চৌধুরী, আবদুল মুমিন, কাউন্সিলর জাহাঙ্গির হক, আলি জাকারিয়া, শফিকুল ইসলাম, আবুল কালাম আজাদ, ওয়াসে চৌধুরী ও হাফসা ইসলাম প্রমুখ।

বক্তারা বলেন, বিবিসিসিআই বাংলাদেশি-ব্রিটিশ ব্যবসায়ীদের মূলধারার অর্থনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ডে সম্পৃক্ত করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করছে। সংগঠনের কার্যক্রমকে আরও বিস্তৃত করতে ঐক্যবদ্ধ প্রচেষ্টার প্রয়োজনীয়তা তুলে ধরেন তারা।

পরিশেষে, উপস্থিত সবার প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা জানিয়ে সভাপতি জনাব রফিক হায়দার সভার সমাপ্তি ঘোষণা করেন।

BBCCI Holds High-Level View-Exchange Meeting with Chittagong City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain

The British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) today 18th November 2025 held a high-level view-exchange meeting with Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Honorable Mayor of Chittagong City, at its London headquarters.

The session was presided over by BBCCI President Rafik M. Haider, with proceedings conducted by Director and Global Trade Strategist Misbah Chowdhury. The program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Mawlana Wahid Siraji.

A welcome address was delivered by Senior Director Abul Kalam Azad, followed by remarks from Former Mayor Jahangir Hussain, Vice President Abul Hayat Nurujjaman, Political Analyst Dr. Mujib M. Rahman, British Bangladeshi Solicitors Association President Abdul Gaffar, Ashikur Rahman, Finance Director Helal Uddin Khan, Former President S. B. Faruk, and several community leaders.

Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain outlined Chittagong’s growing potential as a major investment hub, emphasising opportunities in the Economic Zone, information technology, tourism, five-star hospitality, and green energy development. He invited UK-based investors to explore long-term prospects in these sectors.

During the meeting, BBCCI expressed its intention to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chittagong City Corporation. Under the proposed partnership, BBCCI will offer free training and professional certification programmes aimed at enhancing youth skills and strengthening workforce capacity in Chittagong.

The event concluded with a shared commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and promoting sustainable economic growth between the UK and Bangladesh.

BBCCI Hosts Reception Honouring Bashir Ahmed’s British Empire Medal Award

The British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BBCCI) hosted a reception in London this week to honour Mr. Bashir Ahmed BEM, Chair of Pathfinderhub and former BBCCI President, following his receipt of the Honorary British Empire Medal (BEM) awarded by His Majesty The King in the 2025 Honours List.

The reception brought together prominent figures from the British Bangladeshi community, business sector, and diplomatic circles. The event was chaired by BBCCI Vice President A.H. Nurujjaman.

Mr. Ahmed received the honour in recognition of his decades-long contribution to community development, entrepreneurship, and grassroots engagement. His nomination was supported by Dr. Sean Carey, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, who also attended the event.

Special guests included Mr. Tanvir Hossen, Trade Attaché of the Bangladesh High Commission in the UK, who praised Mr. Ahmed’s role in promoting trade and fostering stronger UK-Bangladesh relations.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Nurujjaman said, “Mr. Bashir Ahmed receiving the British Empire Medal is not only a personal milestone but a collective achievement for our entire community. His work in leadership and mentorship has positively impacted many lives.”

The reception featured tributes highlighting Mr. Ahmed’s continued efforts through Pathfinderhub, a UK-based initiative supporting leadership and professional development within minority communities.

BBCCI Hosts Reception Honouring Dr. Shahnoor Khan for Receiving Honorary PhD from a US-Based University

The British Bangladeshi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) hosted a special reception to honour Dr. Shahnoor Khan on the occasion of being awarded an honorary PhD from a prestigious university in the United States.

The event was presided over by BBCCI President Mr. Md. Rafique Haider, meeting conducted by DG Barrister Dewan Mahdi.

Also in attendance were four former presidents of the chamber—S. B. Faruk, Mahtab Chowdhury, Bashir Ahmad, and Saidur Rahman ReNu. Distinguished community figures were also present, including Mr. Abab Hussain, former Speaker of Tower Hamlets, Dr. Zakir Khan; Abul Hayat Nurujjaman, Muhib Chowdhury, Emdad Ahmed; Press and Publicity Director Misbah Chowdhury; and Ahmed Hasan.

Speakers at the event highly praised Dr. Shahnoor Khan’s contributions to education, leadership, and community service. They remarked that his remarkable achievement would serve as a source of inspiration for the next generation.

The British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BBCCI) recently held a Board meeting at its head office in London. The meeting was presided over by BBCCI President Md Rafiq Hyder and was moderated by Director General, Barrister Dewan Mahdi.

The session began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Misbah Choudhury, Director of Press and Publicity.

Distinguished members in attendance included former BBCCI President Prof. S.B. Faruk, Bashir Ahmed, Vice President Abul Hayat Nurujjaman, and Kuti Miah. Other notable participants were Finance Director Helal Uddin Khan, Deputy DG Emdad Ahmed, International affairs director Moin Uddin, Director Councillor Jahangir Ahmed, and East of England region President Dr. Shahnoor Khan.

The meeting focused on strategic planning for the coming year, strengthening business ties between the UK and Bangladesh, and enhancing support for British Bangladeshi entrepreneurs. Additionally, a decision was made to open two new regional branches to further expand BBCCI’s operations and outreach.
