We are so proud to share that Natalie Manning has been featured in this month's Life In Magazines Bromley magazine as one of their Remarkable Residents!

Natalie has been part of the Sreepur Village family for over eight years and now leads Hold Everything Bags, the social enterprise she helped launch to give the charity a sustainable income through fair trade. In the feature, she discusses how she became involved with Sreepur Village, what inspired her to start Hold Everything Bags, and why community matters so much to her.

Sreepur Village has been supporting single mothers and children in Bangladesh since the 1980s, offering a safe home, education and training to help women and children build better lives. Every purchase from Hold Everything Bags helps fund that work directly.

Thank you to Life in Bromley for shining a light on the people behind our work.

Some wonderful news to share with you all - Janette Porter has been reappointed as Chair of Trustees of Sreepur Village for a further three years!

Janette's connection to Sreepur began in 1990 through her mother, Ruby Porter MBE, and she has served as a trustee for over a decade. Her unanimous reappointment reflects the dedication, energy and leadership she brings to our charity.

"I walk proudly in the footsteps of those women who have chaired before me - Trisha Silvester MBE, the first chair, then Pat Kerr MBE. Both remarkable women with a vision they believed in - that poverty should never separate a mother from her children."

Congratulations Janette - here's to the next three years!

Read the full announcement, including Janette's plans for her second term:

Today is World Day Against Child Labour, and this year's theme is "Red card to child labour: fair play for children, decent work for adults."

At Sreepur Village, we see every day how the two halves of that theme depend on each other. When a mother can earn a decent living, her child can stay in school.

Ruhi came to us with her young son after her husband died. With no stable income, she lived with a constant fear: that poverty would force her son out of the classroom and into work.

Today, Ruhi is training in tailoring, learning to sew, cut fabric and make clothing, with the dream of one day running her own business. And her son? He is in school every day, eating well, receiving healthcare, and enjoying a childhood free from the risk of child labour.

In her own words: "Protecting children from child labour starts with empowering mothers like me."

At Sreepur Village, looking after one another is just part of daily life.
When a mother is in vocational training - learning to sew, repair bicycles, or build the skills that will help her earn a living - she does not have to worry about who is caring for her children. The other mothers at the village step in, naturally and without question, watching over each other's little ones while their friend or neighbour is in class.

It is a quiet, powerful act of solidarity. And it is one of the things that makes Sreepur Village such a special place - not just a programme, but a genuine community where our mothers and their children look out for each other every single day.

In our final thank you this Volunteers' Week, we are celebrating that spirit. 💛

This Volunteers' Week, we are honoured to celebrate our patron Sue Dale Tunnicliffe - STEM education specialist, former school inspector, and a champion of Sreepur Village since the early eighties.

In 2009, Sue attended a Commonwealth conference where academics suggested that women who could not read and write were not very able. She challenged that view - and then did something about it. She contacted Pat Kerr and together they established the Talking Science Project at the village, helping our mothers understand that science, mathematics, engineering and technology are woven into their daily lives - from cooking and growing vegetables to the way their youngest children play.

It is a project built on respect and belief in our mothers' intelligence and capability. As Sue puts it:

"Mothers are the first and most important teachers of their children, in everything they do."

Thank you, Sue, for more than four decades of support and belief in Sreepur Village.

Today is World Environment Day 🌿

This year's theme - Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future. - feels close to home for us.

Bangladesh is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. Land is scarce. Flooding is a fact of life. Growing food is not always straightforward.

That is why we teach our mothers vegetable sack gardening - a simple, land-free way to grow fresh produce using what is available. No plot of land needed. Just soil, seeds, and a little know-how.
It is a small thing. But for a mother rebuilding her life, being able to grow food for her children matters.
