The UK va**ng sector is facing a wave of regulatory and policy change unlike anything seen before.

With the Va**ng Products Duty now fast approaching and further decisions expected on flavours, packaging, in-store displays and more following the To***co and Vapes Act, now is one of the most consequential moments in the history of the industry.

That's why this year's UKVIA Forum has been brought forward to 13 July and will bring together stakeholders across industry, regulation, health, policy and enforcement to focus on the question:

How do we make va**ng policy work best?

If you're involved in the sector, this is an event you won't want to miss.

How will the Va**ng Products Duty impact you?

From October 2026, a new Duty (set at £2.20 per 10ml or £2.64 with VAT) will increase the cost of va**ng products across the UK.

Based on current average market prices, the cost of:

↗️A 10ml e-liquid could increase to £5.14
↗️A two pack of 2ml pods could increase to £6.05
↗️A 100ml shortfill could increase to £38.39

We want to know how this cost increase is set to impact va**rs in the UK, access to va**ng products, the number of quit attempts and the black market.

Help us shine a light on the TRUE cost of the duty! Take part in our survey today: https://forms.monday.com/forms/b653e8c541b25a28e1047763348298b1?r=euc1

Between today marking the first anniversary of the single use v**es ban and calls for a £5 deposit on v**e sales to encourage responsible disposal, it has been a busy day of media interviews for the UKVIA.

Our Director General John Dunne had a packed schedule of media interviews including the Nicky Campbell show on BBC Radio Five Live.

He clashed with Professor Andrew Bush, an expert in respiratory disease in children, who disputed evidence that va**ng was 95% less harmful than smoking and who advocated selling v**es in to***co flavours only.

John told the professor that banning all but to***co flavours would discourage adult smokers from quitting ci******es and said the NHS, Public Health England and Cancer Research UK (CRUK) all agree that va**ng was considerably less harmful than smoking.

Talking to Jim Diamond on LBC News, John said imposing a £5 deposit on v**es would be a ‘disaster’ as it would make it more likely for smokers to source illicit to***co or v**e products to keep costs down.

He said a £1 deposit would promote the return of used products to be recycled and called for a national government public education campaign to encourage responsible consumer behaviour when disposing of used v**es.

John added: “We are soon going to have a new duty imposed on v**e products which will see a 300% price increase in some cases so also being hit with a £5 deposit is not going to work.”

Our Director General John Dunne made two appearances on BBC Radio Scotland today after new research revealed that the number of shops selling v**es in Scotland had increased by 28% - from 5,473 in 2020 to 7,069 in 2024.

John told morning show presenter Connie McLaughlin that retailers such as butchers, hair salons and hardware stores were increasingly adding v**es to their product ranges to boost sales.

John said: “For the past five years we have been calling for UK-wide licensing of all v**e retailers because v**es should only be sold where ci******es are sold or from specialist v**e retailers who know their products and can offer help and advice to consumers.”

Speaking on the station’s Drivetime show, John said getting tough on retailers who sold to under 18s would have a huge impact, especially if robust enforcement was backed up by fines of £10,000.

John added: “I have seen fines of £34 being handed out for selling to a 14-year-old and that is just ridiculous.”
