Our Chief Executive, Paul Farmer, joined the BBC Breakfast team on the sofa yesterday to talk about corridor care and why older people are particularly impacted by this care crisis hidden in plain sight.

We've been calling for urgent change on this matter, including our report which showed that one in three people aged 90 or over are waiting for over 12 hours in A&E. The new report from the NHS is an important step in eradicating corridor care once and for all.

“I don’t think people realise what’s involved. You don’t understand it until you’re living it.”

Muriel* cares full-time for her husband Harry*, who lives with Alzheimer’s disease.

From managing appointments and medication to handling finances, transport, and long-term planning, the role of a carer has become all-encompassing for Muriel. Her hobbies have fallen away, socialising has disappeared, and even rest feels hard to come by.

But caring shouldn’t mean carrying everything alone. That's why, this Carers Week, we're asking what can be done differently, so that carers like Muriel can continue to care – but can also be cared for themselves.

We’re proud to be supporting Carers Week!

This year, Carers Week is all about building carer friendly communities. Carer friendly communities are places, spaces, services and community groups where unpaid carers are recognised, understood, and valued. They make support part of everyday life ensuring carers get the opportunities and help they need.

Together we’re building carer friendly communities that support carers in every area of their lives.

Get involved in by visiting https://bit.ly/4upu2i2 to find resources and information about building carer friendly communities.

Today we publish ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities: a blueprint’, setting out our vision for creating communities where unpaid carers are recognised, valued and supported.

The blueprint offers practical guidance on how to create carer friendly communities across health, social care, education, employment, business and services, and out and about in the wider community.

Find out how you and the communities you’re part of can create lasting change for unpaid carers.

Read and share the blueprint today: https://carersuk.pulse.ly/iphejcurp9
