Power to Connect is an award-winning Wandsworth-based charity working to bridge the digital divide. Since launching in April 2020, we’ve supported over 5,000 local individuals and families with access to devices, connectivity, and the digital skills needed to thrive in today’s society. We take a holistic approach to digital inclusion through:

💻 Collecting & Refurbishing Devices - giving a second life to donated laptops, tablets, and smartphones so they’re ready for use.
🚚 Delivering Tech to Those Who Need It - making sure devices reach local schools, families, and community groups across Wandsworth.
📱 Free Digital Drop-ins - running weekly sessions in libraries and community centres where residents can get one-to-one help with everyday digital challenges.
🌐 Digital Skills Courses - offering free workshops and confidence-building support covering essential skills like email, online services, video calls, and staying safe online. Digital exclusion can mean missed lessons, limited job opportunities, isolation, and reduced access to healthcare. Our mission is to tackle these challenges head-on, making sure no one is left behind in an increasingly digital world. We are proud to work alongside local schools, community organisations, and volunteers to reach those who need us most.

🚨 Our digital drop-ins are back and we’re excited to share our Autumn schedule!

Each week, our volunteers will be in libraries across Wandsworth, offering free digital support to help residents get online, build confidence with their devices & access essential services.

📅 Sessions restart today (w/c 14th September) and will run weekly until w/c 14th December, with a short one-week break for half term (w/c 26th October).

These sessions are open to everyone - whether you need help sending an email, filling in an online form or learning new digital skills.

So much of everyday life now happens online - from finding a job and managing money to booking appointments and staying in touch with the people we care about.

Being online is part of everyday life for so many of us, but without reliable access, confidence or digital skills, even simple tasks can become much harder.

This week, we are supporting End Digital Poverty Week.

Across the UK, digital poverty affects up to 19 million people. It can mean not having a suitable device, being unable to afford enough data, struggling with an online service, or not having the confidence and support to use the digital tools now expected in everyday life.

End Digital Poverty Week is a chance to bring those experiences into sharper focus and support the practical work needed to change them.

We are sharing this because digital inclusion is not only a national issue. It is something organisations, communities and individuals can all help move forward.

🚨🚨Back to School Tech Drive!

With the autumn term now beginning for children across Wandsworth, it’s worth remembering that a working laptop is now an essential part of education. Without one, a child can’t do tonight’s homework, do further reading or keep up with their class.

Over time, missing out on basic tech fluency builds a silent barrier that restricts their higher education and job options down the line. 📉

That spare laptop gathering dust in your office, drawer, or cupboard can seriously go a long way!!!

Ilena joined our free Essential Digital Skills course because, like so many of us, she was finding everyday technology frustrating and wanted to feel more confident in a world that’s becoming increasingly digital.

We loved hearing how much the course has helped her feel more skilled, confident and able to keep up!! 💪

The number of graduate jobs has fallen by almost half over the past year, according to new data from Adzuna 🤯

These stats are obviously very depressing and for early-career tech talent it feels like it’s only getting tougher.

At Power to Connect, we’re seeing these effects first hand. We have brilliant volunteers with degrees in Data, Cybersecurity and AI who are ready to work, but getting that first foot on the ladder feels almost impossible right now.

They’re spending their time helping us bridge the digital divide, so we want to help them break through!! 💪

Woohoo we’ve been featured in the London Post! 🗞️

We’re so grateful to see the work of Power to Connect highlighted and a huge thank you to The Freemasons’ Charity for their incredible £12,500 grant!!

This support helps us run more free digital drop-ins in local libraries and get refurbished laptops and phones into the hands of families who need them most.

Digital access makes such a difference to everyday life, from accessing healthcare and education to staying connected with loved ones. We’re so grateful to everyone who helps us make this work possible.

When Carmelita first came to our digital drop-ins, everyday technology had become a barrier. She wanted to access old photos, use email and get more comfortable with the technology she was increasingly needing to use, but didn’t always know where to start. 🤔

With regular support, things have started to change. Carmelita has learned new skills, become more confident using her phone and can now do things independently that once felt out of reach - from taking screenshots and using email to accessing computers and support at her local library.

It’s given her greater independence and made it easier to stay connected, access information and continue doing the things that matter to her. We’re so pleased to have Carmelita as one of our regulars and to see all that she’s learned!
