Hello and welcome...

Be That Change is a grassroots community collective formed in the wake of the George Floyd murder in the USA, and the Black Lives Matter protests we have all seen globally. We were all inspired to come together after witnessing an ongoing local experience of racism, both living and working in the borough, and the continual disadvantage experienced by the Black people within our community.

We are a group of passionate local people in Waltham Forest that intend to work with neighbours, friends, family, colleagues, businesses and organisations within the borough to stand together against racism and to highlight the importance of promoting equality across our borough. We want to help to inspire positive change and contribute to improving the lives of not only ourselves and our families, but for our neighbours, the borough and the future generations who come to call Waltham Forest home.

In summary, we aim to:

☑️ Promote a message of anti-racism across the borough that goes beyond the narrative of tolerance and offers genuine cultural celebration and equality.

☑️ Provide online resources for residents who want to find out more, a safe and central place to do so www.Facebook.com/BTCWF.

☑️ Plan a range of projects, activities and future events that encourage community cohesion, understanding, inclusivity and knowledge within local and borough-wide communities.

☑️ Empower all residents within the borough to proactively and peacefully challenge racism when personally experienced, as well as in instances where it is witnessed.

☑️ Lead by example, showing that together we can stand against racism and Be That Change, by keeping the often-uncomfortable conversations flowing about racism and race inequality. By continuing the discussion to ensure that progress and meaningful change within our borough are sought from neighbours, colleagues and our elected representatives.

☑️ Be accessible to all members of Waltham Forest's diverse community.

☑️ Collaborate with businesses, authorities and networks who have broader initiatives which offer an opportunity to empower and support the black community.

As a diverse and progressive London borough, we should all be standing together against racism, irrespective of age, race, gender, sexuality, background, experience, ability, economic status, political affiliations, religious beliefs or locality within the borough.

We want to collaborate with as many organisations to spread this message as possible and support the London Borough of Waltham Forest to hold firm an anti-racism stance.
