💙 What a fantastic day at the Islington Dementia Fair!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at Vibast Community Centre today.

It was wonderful to see so many local people coming together to learn more about dementia – from how to get a diagnosis to the support, services and activities available in Islington.

From informative talks and conversations with local organisations to our dementia-friendly pottery session, there was lots to discover and enjoy.

🌞 Stay safe in the very hot weather!

Very hot weather continues, with a red heat-health alert in place for London today.

This means the heat could affect everyone, not just those who are usually more at risk. Hot weather can make people seriously ill – 1,500 deaths were linked to heatwaves in the UK last year alone.

Stay safe and look out for others who may be vulnerable.

Remember to follow the DUCKS:
Drink water – Don’t’ wait until you’re thirsty. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and sugary drinks as they can dehydrate you
Use shade/keep cool
Check on neighbours - especially those who are aged 65 and over and those with underlying illnesses
Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
Stay in a cool space

For more information on staying safe, who is most at risk, what symptoms of heatstroke to look out for, and tips on how to stay cool, search online for 'Beat the Heat' GOV.UK.

Call 111 if you think someone may have heatstroke. Call 999 in an emergency.

Take a look and see if there's one near you. Stay cool and check in on friends, family and neighbours who may be more vulnerable in the heat.

Islington Council has a network of Cool Spaces across the borough. These free community venues offer a place to rest, cool down and access drinking water.

This , Beattriz (Social Prescribing Link Worker) and Maria (Navigation Team Leader) share how they support local residents to overcome day-to-day challenges and build social connections. 🤝

While their client groups face very different barriers and require distinctly different support, their experiences highlight a shared outcome: the powerful impact of compassionate professional support in reducing social isolation and improving wellbeing. 🌱
