VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT ON JOHN

Nearly four years in, John has done a bit of everything at the Foodbank.

How long have you been volunteering with us, and what brought you to the Hornsey Foodbank?

“Nearly four years volunteering. When I retired I wanted to devote time to making a difference in my community.”

What kind of volunteering do you do?

“I started clearing up, moved to helping guests fill their shopping bags (my default role at the foodbank) and do ‘front of house’ sometimes, welcoming all the guests. I’ve worked with the mighty veggies/fruit team and, finally, I’ve loved fundraising playing gigs with my band, The Hornsey Collective, alongside foodbank volunteer Liz, with over £4,000 raised so far.”

What’s one thing you’d tell someone thinking about volunteering here?

“It’s great to chat and laugh with so many wonderful guests and fellow volunteers. The two-way flow of kindness and care is what makes a community tick and I love being a cog in that wheel.”

If you are interested in volunteering at the Hornsey Foodbank or would like to donate or just find out more about the foodbank please visit our website.
