Identifying the critical need to invest in infrastructure and establish healthcare facilities to advance public health and improve quality of life in the homeland, AGBU donors established funds to support these efforts coordinated by Haygaz Karageuzian, AGBU’s representative in Soviet Armenia. Within a short period of time, AGBU established the Tarouhi Hagopian Maternity Ward (including a school for midwives), the Marie Noubar Eye Clinic, the Aved Sarkis Rabies Clinic in Yerevan, and supported the State University of Yerevan.

While AGBU invested in schools throughout the Ottoman villages in the earliest years, the 1920s saw a shift to providing opportunity for higher education to students living throughout the world. By the early 1930s, access to universities and colleges through AGBU scholarships would change the lives of thousands of bright Armenians through the years and ultimately impact personal professional success and community growth in new ways.

Integrating elder students and adult orphans into society became a priority for AGBU in the decade after the Genocide. Vocational training for men allowed countless individuals to master trades and apprentice in different crafts. Women and girls were taught tailoring skills, placed with affluent families or cared for in specific girls’ facilities to be educated. Schools and boarding facilities were established throughout the region including Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Iran, Lebanon, Syria and beyond.

Snippets of the Miqayel Voskanyan Quartet’s England debut this June - a world premiere of original compositions centred on the Armenian tar.

It was an honour to partner with concertedartists and Oberton Music to bring this to audiences in Nottingham, London, and Manchester. Thank you to Miqayel Voskanyan Vardan Ovsepian Jasper Høiby and Bernard Schiepers for a truly special evening of Armenian Jazz.

The war brought a growing concern among the AGBU leadership about the plight of Armenian women and children, particularly those living in Bedouin tribes. In 1918, AGBU enlisted the assistance of British intelligence services and funded missions to rescue them and bring them back to Armenian communities. Various missions led by Levon Yotneghperian and Rupen Herian resulted in the recovery of hundreds of women and children between June and August 1919.

It was such a pleasure to gather once again for our recent dance workshop (6th edition!). Thank you to everyone (particularly to the kids) who joined us in celebrating dance, connection, and our shared cultural heritage.

During the session, we danced Gyovnd, Ververi, Tamzara, Papouri, Mayorke, and Echmiadzin — each bringing its own rhythm, energy, and joy to the floor. We also danced and sang together to Gyovnd music and the song «Մեր Տան Իտեւ» (Mer Tan Idev).

A heartfelt thank you as well to everyone who helped create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere at Gulbenkian Hall. It was a pleasure to fill the space with dance and music once again.
