London Celebrates Ramadan: Ramadan Lantern Lit at Ealing Council as Part of the “Brightening Our Boroughs, Together in Ramadan” Initiative
Today, a Ramadan lantern was lit at Ealing Council in West London, accompanied by banners displayed inside and outside the council building to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. This event is part of the “Brightening Our Boroughs, Together in Ramadan” initiative, which, in its first year, focuses on West London boroughs to raise awareness about Ramadan and engage local council leaders and MPs in showing solidarity with the Muslim community. The initiative also aims to promote understanding of Ramadan and Muslims in the area, especially as Muslims make up nearly a quarter of the population in some parts of London.
The initiative, launched by the Arab Community Center in Britain in collaboration with Alarab in the UK and coordinated with West London councils, seeks to promote diversity and inclusion while demonstrating support for the Muslim community during this sacred month.
Speaking about the initiative, Rashid, a long-time resident of Ealing, said:
“I have lived in Ealing for 28 years, and I have never seen banners welcoming Ramadan at the council before. This is a fantastic initiative that should be expanded to all councils, as many Muslims hesitate to put up Ramadan decorations due to fears of Islamophobia.”
This initiative aims to foster coexistence, understanding, and appreciation of different cultures within British society, highlighting the positive contributions of Muslims to their local communities.
