๐ Hope for Education by Lyca Gnanam Foundation: Rebuilding Young Futures After Disaster ๐๐
The Badulla District was among the regions most severely impacted by the recent Ditwah floods and landslides ๐ง๏ธ, leaving countless families displaced and causing the loss of homes, belongings, and vital educational materials. ๐๐
Children in these affected communities faced immense challenges, with many losing their school supplies and struggling with uncertainty about continuing their education. ๐ง๐ฝ๐ฆ๐ฝ
In response to this urgent need, the Lyca Gnanam Foundation (LGF) stepped forward with a school bag distribution programme ๐โจ, aimed at supporting childrenโs education and restoring hope for a brighter future. This initiative ensured that students could return to school with dignity, confidence, and essential learning resources ๐โ๏ธ.
The distribution took place at Mangaiyar Karasi Vidyalayam, Abaragala Tamil Vidyalayam, and Warwick Tamil Vidyalayam within the Rendapola Grama Niladhari Division ๐ซ. Approximately 420 students received school bags filled with essential stationery items and exercise books ๐๐.
The programme was attended by Development Officers from the Walimada Divisional Secretariat, officials from the Walimada Zonal Education Office, school principals, teachers, parents, and studentsโbringing together nearly 850 participants ๐ค๐.
As these villages were among the hardest hit by floods and landslides, this initiative played a crucial role in supporting the educational recovery of children ๐๐. Through this meaningful effort, the Lyca Gnanam Foundation reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to child-centred education and long-term recovery in disaster-affected communities ๐ฑโจ.
