🌱 Empowering Women Through Sustainable Aloe Vera Cultivation in Kilinochchi

The Lyca Gnanam Foundation has launched a sustainable livelihood initiative in Kallaru Village, Kandawalai Division, Kilinochchi, to support rural women through Aloe Vera cultivation.

The programme was conducted with the participation of Mr. Pirunthakaran, Divisional Secretary of Kandawalai, together with LGF representatives, government officials, community members, and participants.

Kallaru is located in a dry-zone area where limited water availability creates challenges for traditional farming. As Aloe Vera requires comparatively less water and is well suited to dry climatic conditions, LGF identified it as a practical and climate-resilient livelihood opportunity.

Participants were provided with Aloe Vera plants and portable grow bags to establish home-based cultivation systems. This allows them to manage cultivation alongside their daily responsibilities while creating an additional source of income.

The initiative promotes sustainable agriculture, women’s economic empowerment, household financial stability, and greater resilience within rural communities.

💧Lyca Gnanam Foundation Opens RO Water Plant in Kalmadu, Mannar

The Lyca Gnanam Foundation (LGF) successfully inaugurated a new Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Plant in Kalmadu Village 2, Mannar, providing a sustainable solution to the long-standing drinking water challenges faced by the community.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Aamalraj, Divisional Secretary of Madhu, LGF representatives, community leaders, and local residents.

Kalmadu and surrounding villages have been severely affected by waterborne diseases due to limited access to safe and clean drinking water. Recognising this urgent need, LGF established the RO water purification facility to provide purified drinking water to the community completely free of charge.

This initiative forms part of LGF’s nationwide programme, “Provision of Clean Drinking Water,” which aims to improve access to safe drinking water in vulnerable communities across Sri Lanka.

The new facility is expected to reduce health risks, prevent waterborne diseases, and significantly improve the quality of life of residents.

The Divisional Secretary appreciated LGF’s valuable contribution and encouraged the community to work together to maintain the facility for long-term use.

Residents expressed their heartfelt gratitude, highlighting that access to free, clean drinking water will make a meaningful difference to their health and daily lives.

Through this initiative, the Lyca Gnanam Foundation continues its commitment to public health, sustainable community development, and humanitarian support.

Lyca Gnanam Foundation Supports 100 Students in Sivapuram, Kilinochchi

Lyca Gnanam Foundation organized a School Bag and Stationery Donation Program for 100 students at Elephant Pass Sinhala Tamil Government Mixed School, supporting children from the economically vulnerable Sivapuram village in Kilinochchi District.

The event was held with the participation of Mr. Muralitharan, District Secretary of Kilinochchi, Mr. Pirunthakaran, Divisional Secretary of Kandawalai, LGF representatives, school officials, parents, and community members.

Many families in Sivapuram face difficulties in providing essential learning materials for their children. Through this initiative, LGF provided school bags and stationery items to reduce the financial burden on parents and encourage students to continue their education with confidence.

This initiative reflects LGF’s continued commitment to education, child welfare, and community empowerment.
