Postponing Fridays Bingo night to 2026. So sorry we had quite a bit of feedback and only a few tickets sold that people are busy to attend this week. So we’ll move the GMV bingo night to next year. For those that bought tickets we’ll process refunds. We’ll avoid having it in November in the future.

2nd phase of 500s Planning Application

Deadline is 11.59pm Wednesday 12th November

Thank you to the 534 objections received for the first phase. The second phase has 242 objections received so far.

OBJECTION TO THE PROPOSED BUILDING OF A 20-STOREY TOWER AND 4 OTHER BUILDINGS instead OF THE OPEN SPACE AND ONE BUILDING GIVEN PERMISSION IN 2019 ON THE ‘500s’ PLOT

GMV residents were sold a vision of “village life in the city” low-rise buildings, open green spaces, and a community-first design. The new plan for a 20-storey tower and a further 4 buildings on the 500s plot completely breaks this promise and threatens the character, safety, and wellbeing of our neighbourhood.

Please submit your objection to the council today. it takes less than 2 minutes and your voice matters.

How to Object
1. Go to link: https://planning.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/online-applications/
2. 25/3073/F
3. Click “Comments”
4. Select “Make a comment”
5. Enter your address and select “Complainant”
6. Click “Object” and include points such as:

It is clear that they are trying to remove the open space to build more high-rise flats which is:

🏡 1. A departure from the Original GMV Vision

Residents were told the 500s plot would remain open space or a community-focused commercial site. A 20-storey residential tower along with 4 other buildings completely contradicts the original “village” concept and makes the area feel overcrowded and urbanised.

There is a deviation from the 2012 Masterplan with the housing density, the 400s ended up with higher housing density due to the 2019 amendments of having ‘open space’ in the 500s. Now they want to deviate from the 2019 amendments and increase housing density again in the 500s. So overall a change from the 2012 plans in greater housing density.

🌳 2. There is a lack of Open Space

Existing GMV residents already struggle with a lack of accessible green areas. The new podium gardens will be private for new tenants only. GMV residents were promised “acres of green space”, this commitment has not been kept.

As stated in the National Planning Policy Framework in Chapter 2, paragraph 8, page 5, to achieve sustainable development in the planning system there is a need for a social objective which is “to support strong, vibrant and healthy communities, by ensuring that a sufficient number and range of homes can be provided to meet the needs of present and future generations; and by fostering well-designed, beautiful and safe places, with accessible services and open spaces that reflect current and future needs and support communities’ health, social and cultural well-being.”

☀️ 3. There will be Loss of Light and Wellbeing

Independent resident analysis shows that homes on lower floors will lose natural light for much of the year due to overshadowing from the proposed towers. This will have a major impact on quality of life.

🗣️ 4. Ignored Community Feedback

Previous objections about building height and lack of green space were ignored, even though similar concerns elsewhere led to building relocations. Our community deserves the same consideration. Residents have been asking for a gym for years. There is no space for a good sized gym in these plans.

🚗 5. Parking and Safety Issues

There are already severe parking and traffic problems along Peartree Way and West Parkside, leading to safety risks and vehicle damage. The plans do not include sufficient facilities for delivery drivers. Increasing housing density without improving infrastructure will make this far worse.

6. Give personal examples of how these new plans for the 500s plot affect you

Residents were promised a balanced, safe, and community-driven development.
This proposal disregards those commitments.

Renters, leaseholders, you can all object. There is no limit to the number of planning objections a single household can submit in England, and more than one person per household can object

Please object today to protect the vision of GMV as a genuine village community.

Major tree works going ahead near Southern Park

Hi all
Just to let the residents know that we have Oxleas Tree Care in today (Tuesday 4th Nov) and tomorrow (Weds 5th Nov) to carry out major tree works in our alder woodland which borders onto Southern Park.
We are having to fell a lot of large trees, mainly alder, that have died or are in a dangerous state due to a tree disease that affect alders across the UK, Phytophthora alni, which has been exacerbated by extreme summer heat, prolonged dry spells and low water levels.
Phytophthora disease of alder (Phytophthora alni) - Forest Research
This does mean that we will have to close off parts of the path from the Yacht Club side of the development to the village square and apologise for the inconvenience. The tree surgeons are having to use special equipment to fell the trees as they are too dangerous to climb. The larger trees being felled are also right next to the path which gets very busy with walkers, cycles, scooters, pushchairs etc.

Afterwards, the woodland will look a bit bare to start with but once the works have taken place, it will be safe to start working on the woodland with our volunteer teams to manage the edges and habitats. There will also be more light in the alder carr and we have oaks and other trees that will benefit from this, as well as the understorey of lower levels shrubs like Elder and woodland flowers like Red Campion. Given time, the woodland will recover and we will be managing it carefully to maintain as broad a range of species as possible.

Best wishes
Joanne

A NEW ROUND OF PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Back in April, we welcomed local residents to two public exhibitions showcasing GMVL’s initial plans for Parcel 5. Now, having reviewed community feedback and continued to engage with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the Greater London Authority, we are now pleased to invite you to new public exhibition on our revised plans.

Both events take place at the GMV Community Centre, located at 2 Oswald Gardens, London SE10 0SH, and are on Monday 14th July from 3pm to 8pm, and on Wednesday 16th July from 10am until 2pm. Both events take place at the Meridian Room.

Members of GMVL and the wider project team will be at both events to answer any queries or questions you may have, and feedback forms will be able across both sessions so that we can collect community comments.

Welcome to Greenwich Millennium Village Limited’s (GMVL) consultation webpage regarding the emerging proposals for Plots 501, 502 and 503 of Parcel 5 (otherwise known as ‘the 500s’) at the Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV).
