*A huge milestone for Brixton*🟠

Buy Back Brixton has been named preferred buyer of Brixton Village and Market Row 🙌🏿

The current owners have now entered into an agreement with the Brixton Traders & Community Association and The Advocacy Academy on the proposed sale.

If completed, this would be the largest purchase of a commercial asset for community ownership in the UK.

_Preferred buyer_ means movement into the next phase of the purchase process, not that the market is bought. There are 8 weeks to complete due diligence and exchange contracts, then up to a further 4 months to raise the remaining funds and complete the legal and governance work.

4 things that help the initiative today:

The Olive Morris Awards Luncheon is coming soon!

Share your nominations by 10th September this year to award a living woman ( African heritage ) who deserves to be celebrated and her works shared with the community.

The awards ceremony is on the 10th October in Brixton (London).

Last year was too much fun and we are excited to see which amazing women will be voted in by her community for this years awards!

There is a great deal happening within our community right now, and many of the conversations emerging from this moment reflect deeper struggles that can no longer be ignored. We also recognise that not every voice shaping these discussions has our collective wellbeing at heart.

At DTA, we believe in action over noise. Rather than simply reacting, we remain committed to creating spaces where our community can reflect, heal, organise and define its own future on its own terms.

We are pleased to welcome psychotherapist Brian Adderley, who will guide a powerful exploration of wholeness, wellbeing and community healing, embracing both the masculine and feminine dimensions of what makes us human.

Join us on 12 September, 2026 in person, for our next session.

This is a space for honest dialogue, collective reflection and meaningful action.

From Yard to Archive had its London Rastafari reasoning session led by Sistah Sheeba Levi on Saturday. Decolonising the Archive was honoured to host.

Awesome vibes and book sharing reasoning and people. Big up Black History Studies for showing 3 awesome films on Rastafari and sharing with us.

From Yard to Archive course is now in its second week in Birmingham with HOOD FUTURES STUDIO and has given 23 scholarships to support to access this program.

From Yard to Archive kicks off with a day-long Sound System jam with Love Express Sound

Join Decolonising the Archive ( DTA) and .studio for the launch of the Reparative Archive Course and project through the lens of the
Rastafarian movement - a movement which has been a formidable champion for African/Black Identity in Britain and the World.

On the day we will share a rare archive exhibition from Ras T and and a reasoning offering a bilateral exchange on Rastafari.

We kick off in Handsworth Birmingham in a huge garden and Community Hall

Learn about the radical archive we will be building and some of the contributors we are blessed to be able to share with.

Special Guest Mamma G, Ras Moqapi, Shawn Nepthali Sobers,
Adding further insight to the trod.
