A big round of applause to Pat and Charlie who interrupted their tour of V&A waterfront bars this week for a sponsored hike up Table Mountain.

The duo managed the 10km, 1050m elevation route in 5hrs 15' with the odd rest for water, reaching the summit around midday after an early start!

Huge thanks to Terry Dwyer for sponsoring, and special mention for Nicky Wright for the Penguin mascot 🐧

October 2024 saw more cycling prowess as a Penguin Peloton breakaway cycled Jersey and Guernsey (into the wind) raising £2285. This was increased by PAC to £5000 and sent as a grant to Jersey Hospice Care.

On the 26th October we announced a new research award in memory of Simon Lau, Guy’s graduate and GHRFC 3rd XV Captain who died from Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 33 last year. The award was announced following the inaugural Simon Lau Cup, during which the Penguins once again prevailed over the GHRFC freshers XV.

In April 2024 we awarded £10,000 of annual research funding, selected from a range of nominated projects by the PAC research Committee. We also jointly funded two further awards (worth £30,000!) alongside The Urology Foundation: the Chris Howell Award and the Small projects Research initiative.

Continuing our recap of 2024 - February and March were busy months with £34,000 and £30,000 of grants respectively distributed to twelve great charities.

Birmingham Hospice, Neuroendocrine Cancer UK, Coppafeel!, Breast Cancer Now, The Urology Foundation, Velindre Cancer Centre, St Lukes Hospice, Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, Oddballs Foundation, Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice, and HASAG all received grants.

Where possible, we request that our funding be spent on research with the goal of beating cancer entirely. Elsewise, we request it is spent on projects directly supporting those affected by Cancer - so you know your donations are going where they're needed most!

To begin our recap of 2024, we're taking you all the way back to 20th January and the annual Fergus Scholefield Memorial Cup Match, played in memory of a brave young boy who died before his 3rd birthday.

The day ended in a questionable draw, meaning the Penguins retain the cup - you can read the entertaining match report here - https://www.penguinsagainstcancer.org.uk/2024-fergus-cup-rugby. The game was followed by a curry and raffle, raising £594.

Also in January, we auctioned off Six Nations tickets for England vs Wales raising a further £600.
