🌹On Tuesday, September 10, a grand celebration filled the neighborhood of Aleppo where the El Urud school is located with smiles: after a summer spent repairing the damage caused by war and the earthquake, the school is now ready to welcome teachers and students to start a new school year together.

The inauguration saw the participation of the Melkite Church priests, who manage the school, various local associations, and our General Director; they were joined by numerous citizens, happy to witness a new beginning in Syria's educational landscape, severely affected by the country's conditions.

The educational situation is indeed dramatic in many areas of the Holy Land, where the lack of basic necessities often pushes the need to foster education and culture into the background. ✍️ In today's article, we asked our colleagues in Beirut and Aleppo to share what they see and feel in the countries where they live: the rampant issue of school dropout and the economic difficulties that prevent families from ensuring their children receive a complete education.

📖 This is why projects supporting local schools are so important: they often represent the only hope for students to continue their studies. Read more in the "News" section of our website ➡️ https://www.proterrasancta.org/en/news/school-in-syria-lebanon-privilege

⚽ Running breathlessly on a synthetic grass field, winning the ball, and kicking it with all their strength: for the children and teenagers of , football has the magical allure of play, the carefree joy of a happy moment, and the power to create a goal to strive for.

Since last November, the Terra Santa College of Aleppo has hosted the Terra Sancta Football Academy, a project by our headquarter Pro Terra Sancta created in collaboration with AC Milan and the AVSI Foundation. Here, young Syrians can feel like normal kids, full of life and eager to grow and play, imagining a future different from the destruction that pervades Aleppo.

👬 The joy that sports provide is enriched by the collaboration that develops among team members: playing together creates fertile ground for integration and sharing, essential elements especially in a situation like that of Aleppo. The bus that the Academy provides for its players to reach the football field not only meets the needs of the families but also has the same objective: the journey itself becomes an opportunity to laugh together and form bonds.

Thanks to the participation of the Foundation, the children feel part of something big, and the feeling of being destined to survive without seeing a real future is mitigated: this is the great gift the Academy gives its members. Samir, the father of a child who trains at the College, told us about the bright eyes with which his son keeps repeating to him: "Dad, can you believe it? I'm playing for Milan!"

Once again, this March 15, we are forced to remember. To remember what happened 13 years ago in a small town south of Damascus. A series of protests started the Syrian war. Begun, perhaps, with a desire for greater freedom, it quickly turned into a proxy war that devastated the country.

Today in Syria, the war has taken on a much more local dimension, but it is struggling to recover. The economic crisis has brought it to its knees, and international sanctions are starving the population. People want to leave, so many are succumbing. The future is bleak, and the chances of a solution still far away.

In this video curated by our contributor Boutros Sayegh we recall the story of 13 years of war. We will continue to stand alongside those suffering from war in the land of St. Paul. Beside the last ones, to keep those small seeds of hope alive.

More than a hundred days since the beginning of the war, we met Father Gabriel Romanelli, the parish priest of , now away (only physically) from his people. He told us about how his parishioners are experiencing the recent weeks of the war. Some have fled and are now among the tents in Rafah, while others have stayed in Gaza City. With unshakable faith, they organize into committees and provide assistance to children, the wounded, and the sick.

🏛️ A revolutionary project to introduce archaeology to young people and the rich cultural and artistic heritage. In Betania, 17 students aged 14-17 can explore a new archaeology approach focused on education and understanding of ceramic artifacts.

💡These young students and three female students from Al-Quds University are actively participating in the project, contributing with ideas and enthusiasm.

🌍 We aim to educate them about the ancient history of Betania, to help them appreciate the beauty of ancient ruins, and to encourage them to become custodians of the precious archaeological and artistic heritage of the Holy Land.

🎓 We will continue to support their education, aiming to develop new skills and create job opportunities for the future: https://ow.ly/xth050P6cAU
