Campaigning for a pesticide-free Richmond Upon Thames. In partnership with Pesticide Action Network. But urban pesticide use is unnecessary.

At last count, 38 different toxic pesticides were being used in UK towns and cities. They are sprayed in parks, playgrounds and other green spaces, road verges, pavements and around shopping centres and schools. The chemicals being used have been linked to an array of health problems including cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s. Vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women and the elderly are most at risk. Pesticides are also having devastating effects on London’s natural environment. Due to habitat loss and the large quantities of pesticides used in UK agriculture, wildlife such as bees, birds and hedgehogs are increasingly seeking refuge in our towns and cities. However, the overuse of pesticides is destroying many of the areas where they can forage for food and contaminating the natural resources they depend upon. There are lots of non-chemical alternatives available and hundreds of towns and cities around the world have already banned pesticides. Together let's make Richmond Upon Thames the second London borough to make the health of its residents, especially our children, a priority!

"To explore how much Roundup we’re drinking, U.S. PIRG tested b**r and w**e for glyphosate/Roundup. As we’ve confirmed in this study, Roundup is found in b**r and w**e. This
aligns with past studies on the topic, which found that glyphosate is found in almost all adult beverages. For example, in 2016, b**r testing in Germany also revealed residues of glyphosate in
every single sample tested, even in independent b**rs. After that study was released, German brewers managed to severely limit the amount of glyphosate used in crops for brewing, and saw
marked improvement in a 2017 follow-up study. A study from 2018 in Latvia came to similar conclusions as the original German study, finding glyphosate in all products tested"

"More than 80 per cent of urine samples drawn from children and adults in a US health study contained a weedkilling chemical linked to cancer, a finding scientists have called “disturbing” and “concerning”.

The report by a unit of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that out of 2,310 urine samples, taken from a group of Americans intended to be representative of the US population, 1,885 were laced with detectable traces of glyphosate. This is the active ingredient in herbicides sold around the world, including the widely used Roundup brand. Almost a third of the participants were children ranging from six to 18."

Good morning ! Please will you help this special beach ? This habitat is so rare in Britain , that Hoylake beach is equivalent to an area of ancient woodland the size of Wiltshire . . .

The developing sand dune and saltmarsh on Hoylake beach has only started to grow after Wirral Council stopped spraying the 2km stretch of beach with herbicide in 2019 . Since then huge numbers of red-listed birds like Linnet have made use of this internationally rare habitat , alongside over 170 different plants , over 20 of which are endangered at regional or national level .

Despite all this Wirral Council are asking the public whether they want to keep it , or whether they want it destroyed . Any loss of this internationally threatened habitat would be unacceptable at best . Please spare a few minutes to complete the consultation questionnaire and ask Wirral Council not to kill nature on this outstanding site !
