Tommy’s Kitchen - Working for the Homeless
Hi, I am Tommy Anderson and I am a Community activist within Waltham Forest and Newham. I work, organise and fundraise for pensioners’ groups; such as Waltham Forest Sheltered Housing & Pensioner Group and Waltham Forest Community Hub. I have worked with several homeless groups, such as Borderline, Scots Care, St Mungo, and Christian Kitchen. We were at KukooLaLa Cafe in Leyton and had to move from there to Parker’s Dairy. I have organised several events within Waltham Forest; Sleep Out, Community Breakfast, Night Shelter, Curry In a Hurry.
At present, Tommy’s Kitchen and East London Homeless People’s Network are organising an Emergency Night Shelter at Parker’s Dairy in Wood St, E17. We hope to provide a Breakfast, a hot meal at lunchtime and an evening meal – 5 days a week. We currently have approximately 25 people sleeping in tents and garden sheds. We are hoping to provide showers within the next couple of weeks.
We have a small number of the volunteers, and would welcome many more, as we are working to building up our volunteer list.
