Could you write a letter to Andy Burnham MP?

Andy Burnham has long supported the infected blood community, and now that he has been elected MP for Makerfield, we are asking him to help finish the fight for justice.

We are creating a book of handwritten letters from community members to send to Andy Burnham. We hope it will convince him to finish the fight for justice now he’s returned to Parliament.

Please write a handwritten letter — even just a few lines — about your experience, your family, the delays, or what you want Andy to understand.

Post your letter to:

The deadline for letters to arrive to us is 10 July.

We cannot promise this will change the compensation scheme, but we can promise we will keep trying.

Earlier this month was Volunteers’ Week, an annual UK-wide campaign to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers!

Our peer volunteers, many of whom have faced marginalisation and barriers to volunteering and wider employment, as well as exclusion from healthcare, play a vital role in delivering our hepatitis C, cancer support and needle exchange programmes.

Tomorrow, a debate will take place in the House of Commons on the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme.

We joined the APPG on Haemophilia and Contaminated Blood's drop-in to brief MPs and their staff on our concerns on compensation. It was great to see the event so well attended.

The final piece of legislation creating the rules the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme will follow is about to go through Parliament.

We, and many in the community, have concerns that these changes do not go far enough to correct the injustices present within the scheme.

MPs are now going to have a debate on the problems with the Compensation Scheme in the afternoon of 18th June. We’ve been working with MPs to try to secure this debate for months, so we’re really pleased it’s finally happening as it’s a chance to hold the Cabinet Office to account. We urgently need your help to make sure as many MPs attend the debate as possible.

Head to our website to find you how you can contact your MP:

MPs on the Public Accounts Committee are looking at how compensation schemes are set up and managed.

They want to hear from people who have applied to a scheme about their experiences. This sadly isn't a chance to change the Infected Blood Compensation Scheme, but it is a unique opportunity to voice any issues you've had with the scheme to an influential Committee of MPs who can hold the Government accountable.

The survey is open until midnight on 10th June:

The memorial service may be over, but the long road to justice and peace is not for so many. We will continue to fight for the justice that all members of the infected blood community deserve.
