The end of an old year and cusp of a new one seems a good time for a quick pic of my face and reminder of what I’m about - for all the new comers and old-timers alike.

I cannot tell you absolutes. I won’t tell you whether you’ll become rich or famous. I won’t tell you whether you should dump your bf, quit your job, if your ex was your soul-mate or if Uncle Barry is writing you out of his will. Soz. I cannot write your story for you.

What I *can* do is use the Tarot to help you see your own story more clearly. I can use the cards to provide prompts that help you ask questions of yourself, dig deeper & shine a light on your motivations - and find new perspectives and pathways for yourself.

So if interaction & introspection mixed with philosophy, accountability to yourself, & a bit of good humoured swearing is your jam, then you’ll probably get something out of my readings.

Do I believe that time is kind of an unf**kwithable spiralling vortex that our modern notion of clocks and calendars can barely comprehend? Yes.

Do I also believe that millions of people across the globe directing their thoughts and actions towards a shared concept can create a ripe time for change and opportunity? F**k yes.

And so, it’s with complete earnestness that I say: a new year can be a portal. A portal to new ways of being, new paths, and new challenges.

If you feel like you have a portal emerging - something you know you want or need to do that requires a bit of gumption and a helluva lot of courage - but are reluctant to step into it, here’s a lil spread to help examine that.

Fear, animosity, othering, borders, control, force, individualism.

These are some of the things that are hailed in today's world as pinnacles of order. People (politicians and the extremely wealthy, mostly) will tell you this isn't true. But look to any news outlet, or any government messaging that features 'getting tough on immigration/terrorism/drugs', or any board room where decisions are made to put inordinate amounts of wealth into the hands of the already wealthy - and you will understand that it *is* true...Fear, animosity, othering, borders, control, force and individualism are, by and large, the way things are done around here. They are also the things that are used as tools for subjugation, oppression and crimes against both humanity and nature. And so a person who wants to change the world might ask: what can we do? How do we resist?

Today the Tarot answers that the greatest form of resistance in this world is our joy. It is our friendship with supposed enemies. It is crossing borders to commune with the people or things that feel strange, and different and frightening to us. It is reaching your hand out to caress the beast. It is following a path of soft, gentle consistency over brute force or insidious coercion. It is interdependence and coworking and collectivism and really, truly, trying to embody the divine understanding that we are, in fact, better together.

People often ask me if I actually believe in magic, and my answer tends to be yes. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that I believe in convening with spirits or muttering incantations that make my enemies dicks turn green.

It simply means that I really, truly believe that making magic is the act of using the subtle to influence the dense. It’s the art of calling upon things we cannot physically see or touch to produce effects that we CAN see. So things like imagination, will, determination, love… these are powers we all possess that are dripping with magic.

And if you can find a way to develop and call upon these powers to create art, or nurture beautiful friendships and relationships, or improve your relationship with yourself and usher in improvements in your own life - then you are a goddamn magician. And a powerful one at that.

If it’s fulfilment and freedom you seek, ask yourself whether your relationship with the past is holding you back.

Is holding onto anger or hurt from past events actually driving you forward? Or is it twisting you into bitter knots and keeping you stuck?

Is holding on to hopes and dreams from the past igniting a fire in your belly that’s spurring you into action? Or is it keeping you in a stunted, punch-drunk state of fantasy without any real movement?

Is keeping every energetic tab you’ve ever opened - every feeling or idea or whim about who you could be, or what you could do, or where you could go – is keeping every single one of these tabs open, altogether, all the time a source of motivation and awe and lightness? Or is it a source of skittish head-f**kery, endless rumination, and lethargy?

If it’s fulfilment and freedom you seek, the past MAY hold some answers for you. Just be careful not to get stuck there.
