It's been 100 days since a fast-moving Ebola outbreak was announced in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Over 5,000 cases have been reported, and more than 2,000 people have died.

The outbreak is unfolding in a region already affected by conflict, displacement and fragile health systems. Children are among the most vulnerable.

In our Safe Spaces, children like Guilaine get to be children again.

Save the Children has been responding since the outbreak was first announced, working alongside health authorities, local partners and communities to help stop transmission and protect children and families.

Every humanitarian worker killed, injured or detained is more than a number. They are a parent, sibling, friend, neighbour, or colleague. Their loss is felt not only by their loved ones, but by the communities and children they serve.

Humanitarian workers are ordinary people who choose to support others in extraordinarily challenging circumstances, often while facing the same dangers and hardships as the communities around them.

When aid workers cannot safely reach communities, children’s lives and futures are put at risk. They lose access to food, healthcare, education, protection and other essential services they need to survive, thrive and build a future.

We cannot accept a world where those who save lives are targeted for it. The laws are clear. Aid workers should never be a target.

This , we're calling for action, not just words. Protect aid workers. Protect access to lifesaving support. Protect children.

Humanitarian workers are not targets. But they are being increasingly attacked.❤️‍🩹

More than 1,000 humanitarian workers have been killed over the past three years,
making this the deadliest period on record for the humanitarian community.

Most were local staff, helping their own communities.

And when humanitarian workers can't reach communities, children pay the price.

Repeated displacement has left Raheem and his family struggling to meet even their most basic needs. When cash assistance from Save the Children arrived, he was finally able to buy cooking gas and essential items for his wife and children.

Nearly 1 in 10 children under the age of five in Afghanistan is now acutely malnourished.

In Afghanistan, acute malnutrition in children under five has surged, and humanitarian aid has fallen by almost 70% in the last four years.

Nearly 600 health facilities have been shut or suspended due to funding cuts, impacting about four million people, with around half of them being children.

In a mountainous, hard-to-reach part of northern Afghanistan, Save the Children is the only healthcare provider for 10,000 people. The clinic sees over 100 patients every day. For many people here, this is the only place to access healthcare, nutrition support, vaccinations and maternal health services.

Here's everything you need to know about the strongest earthquake to hit Colombia in over a decade➡️

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on 10th August and was followed by 12 aftershocks.

More than 120 people have been reported killed and nearly 1,500 injured, with numbers expected to rise.

Landslides, damaged bridges, and power outages are making it difficult to reach affected communities.

We know that children are among those most affected by the earthquake.

Many children will need access to safe shelter, food, and clean water.

A powerful 7.4 earthquake has ripped through western Colombia, causing significant damage across the Pacific Region, with tremors felt as far as Venezuela.

While the true scale of the damage is still emerging as search and rescue operations unfold, we know from past experience that children will need urgent support to access shelter, food and water and replace lost belongings. Those suffering injuries will need urgent access to medical support. Many children may have lost their homes, and some may have been separated from their families.

Save the Children is preparing to respond. We have teams and partners in affected areas and are coordinating efforts to deliver support quickly and effectively. We stand ready to support with essential relief items as well as education and child protection support as needed.

Wateen and her son Thaed fled Syria in 2012 and settled in Jordan.

After seeing the impact an education centre had on her children, Wateen decided to volunteer there and is now a teacher.

Education is a lifeline. When schools and learning spaces reopen during a crisis, sometimes in tents or damaged buildings, they become more than classrooms. They become safe spaces.
