Early motherhood doesn't always look the way we imagine it will. 💚

As part of Infant Mental Health Awareness Week, we're sharing Abby's story of premature birth, navigating difficult emotions and struggling to bond with her son in the early days of parenthood.

Her story is a reminder that every parent's journey is different, and that support can make a real difference when things feel overwhelming.

This International Day of Play, we're celebrating imagination, curiosity and all the cardboard-box spaceships, blanket forts and make-believe adventures that come with childhood. 🚀

Play helps children build confidence, explore new ideas and make sense of the world around them.

What was your little one's favourite thing to dress up as? We'd love to hear about the characters, costumes and adventures that have taken over your home. 💚

Healthy eating starts with access. 💚 As we mark Healthy Eating Week, we're recognising that for many families, eating well isn't simply about knowing what's healthy. It's about being able to afford it.

Family Action FOOD Clubs help families access affordable food, reduce pressure on household budgets and connect with others in their local community.

Many young carers take on responsibilities beyond their years, often balancing caring, school, friendships and their own wellbeing.

As we mark Carers Week, we're sharing the experiences of young carers and the importance of listening to their voices. 💚

In this story, young carers discuss mental health, the challenges they face and what helps them feel understood and supported: https://bit.ly/4a7q7Pm

As Volunteers’ Week comes to a close, we're taking a moment to celebrate the incredible people who give their time to support Family Action. 💚

Across the organisation, around 400 volunteers help children, families and communities in all kinds of ways. But rather than telling you what volunteering means, we thought we'd let our volunteers do that themselves.

From giving back to their community, to bringing people together and making a difference, these are just some of the reasons our volunteers choose to get involved.

To every Family Action volunteer, thank you for your time, compassion and commitment. Your impact is felt every day.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the fantastic partnership between Leeds Young Carers and NewDay. 💚

Young carers recently enjoyed their first day of the graduation programme, where they toured the building, learned about the wide range of roles across the organisation, took part in icebreaker craft activities, and spent time gardening together in the afternoon.

It was a brilliant opportunity for the young people to gain insight into the world of work, build confidence, and develop new skills in a supportive environment.

Thank you to everyone at NewDay for helping create such a welcoming and inspiring experience.

"It feels a bit like a calling. A way to take the pain and confusion which comes along sometimes as a single parent, and channel it into something useful which can have a positive effect on other parents and their children." 💚

After receiving support from Family Action's Planning Together for Children service, Tim decided to volunteer and help other parents facing similar challenges. More than two years later, he's still supporting families through some of the most difficult periods of their lives.

As we mark Volunteers’ Week, Frank’s story is a reminder that volunteering can bring confidence, connection and a sense of belonging. ✨

After a difficult period left Frank struggling with low confidence and self-esteem, volunteering helped him rebuild his confidence, reconnect with others and find a renewed sense of purpose.

Now, through Family Action Stockton Family Outreach & Volunteering Service, he supports local families through family hubs, helping parents feel welcomed, supported and less alone.

The time, care and kindness volunteers give can make a real difference to families and communities. 💚

This Volunteers’ Week, hear from one mum who went from receiving support at a Family Action baby group to volunteering herself to support other parents and their mental wellbeing.
