📚 Help us grow our Ukrainian community library in South East London!

The Heritage Bookshelf is a free Ukrainian library created by New Arrivals Support CIC for Ukrainian families, children, young people and adults in our community.

Many children and young people visit the library to read Ukrainian literature and international bestsellers translated into Ukrainian. For them it is a way to stay connected to their language, culture and stories while building a new life in the UK.

We already have nearly 400 books in our collection, and everyone can borrow books for free. You can come, choose a book, read at home, and return it later.

This year is the National Year of Reading in the UK, and we want to make sure Ukrainian children and young people also have access to books they love in their native language.

We have moved our fundraiser to a new platform with zero fees, so every donation goes directly towards supporting and growing the library.

💙 Your donation can help us buy more Ukrainian books for children, young people and families.

Every Saturday, we run our Afghan Weekend School for children and young people from the Afghan community.

The Roohafza Afghan Weekend School is organised by New Arrivals Support CIC and Kaweyan International CIC. More than 120 children and young people aged 8–16 are already studying with us every Saturday during term time across Woolwich, Eltham, and Lewisham.

The school gives children extra support alongside their normal UK school education and helps them stay connected with Afghan culture, language, and community.

At the school, children can join:
• Free Dari and Pashto language classes
• Afghan music, poetry, arts, and creative activities
• Wellbeing sessions in a safe and friendly space
• Support with confidence, learning, and community life in the UK

The school is free to attend.

You can register your child via our website https://www.nascic.org.uk/roohafza-afghan-weekend-school

One day in Canterbury = history, teamwork, ghosts… and Eurovision on the train back.

With support from the Educational Visit Grant, our Ukrainian Youth Project participants explored Canterbury’s historic streets, visited Canterbury Cathedral and St Augustine’s Abbey, took part in a photo competition, raced through the city during a team quest, and finished the day with an interactive ghost history tour.

It was educational, cultural and genuinely fun — helping young people discover more of the UK, learn the stories behind one of England’s most historic cities, and create new memories together.

This , we’re celebrating our amazing team 💚

Four of our caseworkers have completed accredited training with , focused on supporting wellbeing and mental health — for the people we work with, and for each other too.

Our team supports people through really difficult moments, often linked to trauma, stress, uncertainty and starting life again in a new country. That’s why training like this matters: it helps us listen better, respond safely, signpost people to the right support, and look after each other as a team.

Because when our team feels supported, we can support our community even better. 💙

This was more than a performance. It was a story we could deeply relate to.

A heartfelt thank you to and Todun Iluyomade for giving our community the opportunity to attend An Evening with an Immigrant at the .

As people with lived experience of migration, we recognised so many of the emotions shared on stage: the uncertainty of visa status, the pain of leaving behind family, friends and community, and the quiet everyday battles that many people face while trying to rebuild their lives from scratch in a new country.

Community library update we’re really happy about 📚💙

We’ve just received a beautiful book donation from , and honestly it means a lot.

Our Ukrainian community library in South East London has been growing so much this past year (we now have 350+ books!), and donations like this help us keep going.

Every week, we see families with children coming in to read in their native language, teenagers picking up books and even people starting to learn Ukrainian from scratch.

Huge thank you to Magic Cat Publishing and everyone who supports our library 💛

4 years of New Arrivals Support CIC 💛

From just 2 people… to a whole community.

What started in 2022 as an emergency response has grown into something much bigger than we ever imagined.

Today, we’re a team of 11, running different projects and supporting new arrivals in so many ways from youth sessions and community meetups to digital support, education and everyday guidance.

Over the years, we’ve met thousands of you. Shared stories, laughs, challenges, small wins (and big ones too).

This has never just been about “support”.
It’s about people, connection and showing up for each other 🤍

Thank you for being part of this journey 💫
