One of the hardest parts of reducing or stopping chems*x isn't always the drugs themselves.

Sometimes it's the people.

Many people find that their social circle has become closely linked to chems*x. For some, these may be their closest friendships, or even their main source of connection and belonging.

When they start making changes, they can experience loneliness, grief, fear of missing out, and uncertainty about where they fit in.

It's okay to miss people.

It's okay to mourn friendships that have changed.

And it's okay to choose a different path, even when that choice feels difficult.

If you want support around your chems*x use, reach out today.

What’s stopping you from getting support?
.. It can be an uncomfortable question to sit with.

For many people, the barriers are deeper than motivation. Shame, fear, isolation, uncertainty, community pressure, bad past experiences, or not feeling “ready enough” can all keep people stuck for longer than they need to be.

Reaching out does not mean you have failed.
It means you’re being honest about where you’re at.

Support can look different for everyone: harm reduction, therapy, peer support, recovery spaces, keyworking, sober community, or simply having a first conversation.

⏰ Chems*x can take up a lot of space in your life: your time, energy, and focus.

Over time, hobbies, passions, and the things that once brought you joy can slowly fall away.

Reconnecting with them can feel strange at first.

Sometimes even flat.

That’s normal. Your brain may need time to readjust after intense highs.

Start small. A few minutes doing something you used to enjoy, or trying something new without pressure.

Recovery isn’t just about stopping something.

It’s also about rediscovering the parts of life that make you feel like you again.

If chems*x is affecting you, you’re not alone. Support is available. 💬

Chems*x doesn’t always look the way people imagine.

For many people it happens alone, getting high and watching p**n for hours, sometimes losing track of time or feeling stuck in a cycle that’s hard to break.

Solo chems*x can bring up feelings of isolation, shame, exhaustion, or loss of control. These experiences are more common than people realise.

At Controlling Chems*x, we talk about all of it openly:
- drugs,
- p**n
- s*x
- and compulsive behaviours

Our support is free, confidential, and online.

You don’t have to deal with it alone

🫶Supporting someone affected by chems*x can be heavy and confusing.

What helps most isn’t control. It’s steadiness.
✔️ Listen without interrogating
✔️ Communicate openly
✔️ Respect autonomy
✔️ Be consistent, not reactive
✔️ Being Compassionate

đźš« Threats, ultimatums, shame, panic... these usually push people away.

Support doesn’t mean self-destruction.

Boundaries are part of care.

You didn’t cause this.

You can’t fix it alone.

But your presence still matters and support is available for you too.

Chems*x can shrink time until everything feels now or never.

When the nervous system is overwhelmed, imagining a future can feel impossible.

As the body settles, perspective returns and hope becomes believable again.

And if you can’t feel hope yet?

That’s okay.

You don’t have to believe it for it to be true 💛

🧠⚡Chems*x & Paranoia

When chems*x stops feeling fun and starts feeling frightening, paranoia is often involved.

Some chems push the brain into constant threat-scanning mode, even when you’re safe.

đź‘€ Feeling watched
🤝 Mistrusting others
🧩 Reading neutral moments as danger

Paranoia is shaped by dose, frequency, sleep loss, environment, and mixing substances and it feeds isolation, which fuels more use.

This isn’t a personal flaw.
It’s neurochemical and can be reversible.
