WE WON 👏 Tonight’s event has been CANCELLED ✊

Our peaceful demonstration had planned to protest a talk by David Warden for the Dorset Humanist Society. After alerting the venue of the nature and danger of Warden’s talk, the event has now been cancelled.

Warden’s recent think-piece on the history of the region sought to reaffirm the narrative of an Israeli homeland, without contextualising the human impact of the brutal 75 year occupation - which has led to 7 million Palestinian refugees displaced around the world today.

His framing of Palestinian solidarity perpetuates division between communities, erasing the work and impact of and Jewish activists in campaigning for the rights of Palestinians. David has described support for the Palestinian plight as “confused progressivism” and “standing shoulder to shoulder with theocratic totalitarianism”. Meanwhile, the ICJ has found there are legitimate concerns of genocide being committed by Israel in Gaza, and Amnesty International has long labelled Israel an apartheid state.

It’s important to challenge these dangerous biases, and we, the local community, will continue to do so.

Palestine Solidarity BCP is now the Palestine Solidarity Movement ✊

Not only do we have a new name, but we have also introduced three new pages, one for Bournemouth, one for Poole and another for Christchurch. We have done this to connect local communities and make it easier for us to find out where you are located and what we can do in your local area to create impact and advocate for Palestine.

Why have we changed? 🤔

The Palestine Solidarity Movement is the evolution of what we (all of you) have been doing over the last 3 years. As the genocide in Gaza continues and the Palestinians in the West Bank continue to suffer, we need to evolve and ensure that we are collectively more engaged, more educated and connected to one another to make change.

This has been going on for 76 years, and while the end of the genocide is what we are calling for, we are also calling for the end of the horrific occupation and the end of the apartheid.

We will continue to organise protests, vigils and other events in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, but we will also be looking to help other communities around the UK organise & work with other solidarity groups such as PSC, Socialist Workers & Humanity Project to make our marches locally, and in London, bigger and better!

We are in this together, and only together can we liberate Palestine! 🇵🇸
