While public opinion surveys show a strong will for consumers to shift towards more ethically sourced food, most British households would find buying local, seasonal and organic food unaffordable. We figured that a weekly eco-friendly grocery shop could double an average family’s weekly spend on food, or increase the yearly household spend by more than £4,000. For a low-income family, this means t

hat grocery shopping would take up as much as a third of its earnings.

8.4 million people in the UK currently struggle to cover the cost of food, and it looks like current economic challenges are bound to increase that number further. Our mission is to ensure that many more families have easy access to nutritious and environmentally friendly food.
