Could artificial intelligence help doctors identify a medical emergency before it becomes critical? 🏥🤖

At Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa, a new AI system called Shaked is doing just that — analysing patient information in real time and alerting medical teams to complex or potentially life-threatening cases within seconds.

The system can review medical histories, blood-test results and imaging needs, helping doctors prioritise urgent patients and make faster, better-informed decisions. Since being introduced, it has already helped reduce hospital admission and specialist consultation waiting times. ⏱️🩺

Shaked was initiated and developed by Professor Shahar Shelly, who leads Rambam’s Neurology Department as well as the AI laboratory at the Technion’s medical faculty.

The technology is designed to support, rather than replace, doctors — giving medical teams another powerful tool while they retain responsibility for every final decision.

What if the eye could rebuild its own supply of stem cells? 👁️✨

Scientists led by Professor Ruby Shalom-Feuerstein at the Technion have discovered that mature corneal cells can effectively turn back into stem cells and help repair damaged tissue.

The research showed that even older cells could regain stem-cell properties and continue supplying fresh cells to keep the cornea healthy. 🔬🧬

Although the findings are largely based on studies in mice and more research is needed before they can be applied to people, they raise exciting possibilities for regenerative medicine and future approaches to restoring vision.

Could scientists help damaged nerves grow back? 🧠✨

Research originating at the Technion and Tel Aviv University is behind an ambitious Israeli biotech working to do just that.

Haifa-based NurExone is developing an experimental treatment that uses engineered exosomes to deliver therapeutic molecules to damaged nervous tissue, with the goal of restoring function after spinal cord injuries and optic nerve damage. 🔬

Following promising preclinical research, the company is now working towards its first human clinical trials.

It’s another fascinating example of how Technion research can move from the laboratory towards potentially life-changing medical applications. 🇮🇱💙
