‘Life Is A Fairytale’ 🧚🏽♀️💖 .bgs
Recently I had the privilege of attending the 2nd annual International Woman’s Day formal hosted by Cambridge University’s Black Girl’s Space, In celebration of Black womanhood.
I was honoured to be invited to be a guest speaker, along with . To talk about journey as an organisation and what International Woman’s Day means to me.
I spoke of the inspiration for starting KINShIP, which was to address the obstacles faced by Young Black British women in rising to positions of power. Including countering inequalities and improving diversity in higher education and industry.
‘We believe that in order to foster change on a macro-level we must build foundations and support at a community level’
Cambridge University Black Girl’s Space and KINShIP share common values of supporting and uplifting each other and empowering young women with the confidence to take up space within academic institutions.
The night included spoken word, singing and inspiring words from the amazing presenter/dj/broadcaster Henri, who with wit and charm showed us that despite adversity anything is possible.
My biggest takeaway from the evening was being able to sit in the presence of 90 young black women at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, who are thriving, determined and taking every opportunity to be difference that is needed to change the status quo.
