Simply the best weekend at Gilwell Park, for our cubs, scouts and explorers.

Lots of activities on site with: climbing, archery, 3G swing, grass sledging, low ropes, and fencing. We were also treated to a tour of the NPAS London air base at Lippetts Hill, where the group got to learn about the Police’s air unit, and even got to sit in “India 99”.

Such a great weekend, with lots of memories made.

This evening the scouts & explorers has a joint evening, for our first ever RAF Recognition scheme inspection.

Our reviewer, Wing Commander Hale, observed a small selection of our programme from first aid, radio comms, aircraft marshalling, history of the RAF quiz, and of course our flight simulators.

A big well done to the scouts & explorers worked so hard this evening.

This evening members of the group attended the farewell service for the Rector of our home St Andrew’s church, Father Ian, as he begins his retirement.

Two of our patrol leaders presented him with gifts, messages, and cards on behalf of all of the sections.

As a member of our trustee board, and a great supporter of our group, we will miss him and wish him all the best.

Happy retirement Father Ian.

There were also activities from Royal Greenwich Twang & Bang target sports club, and our flight simulators

Scouts learn map & compass, but air scouts take it several steps further and learn navigation.

Our scouts were treated to a taster masterclass in air navigation from our resident pilot, Group Lead Volunteer Simon. They soon learned how to calculate headings & groundspeed, from different wind speeds & directions, using the CRP-1 flight computer.

We have a few budding pilots here.
