Through Project ACE, these scholars were given the opportunity to continue their education and grow into who they are today.

With the support of Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation , Communities for Nature, and Group, their journeys became something they could hold onto.

Now, as they near graduation, they carry forward not just what they’ve learned, but a sense of purpose and a desire to give back.

With Communities for Nature, you can be part of more stories like theirs. Send us a message to explore partnerships.

A thoughtful reflection from Aidan Alberico of LMAX Group on what meaningful sustainability work really looks like.

During her visit to our Project ACE sites with Communities for Nature CEO Rhoda Avanzado Phillips and the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation team, what stood out was not just the intention to support—but the willingness to listen, engage, and understand the deeper systems at play.

As she shared, conservation does not happen in isolation. Protecting ecosystems means investing in communities, livelihoods, and the structures that allow long-term impact to take root.

We’re grateful to be working alongside partners who approach sustainability with this level of depth, care, and commitment.

Last week was spent on the ground with Aidan from LMAX Group, together with the Communities for Nature and Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. () teams, across Brgys. Bulata, Elihan, Cartagena and Danjugan.

It was a chance to walk through the work together. To open the doors of the Bulata Library Elementary School and see it filled. To sit down with our ACE Scholars and Federation members, and listen. To visit the Biga-a Dam and the different livelihood initiatives that continue to take shape. We also made courtesy calls to Brgy Elihan and Brgy Cartagena, where the work is beginning to expand.

Partnerships often begin in conversations, but they are understood more deeply in places like these. In shared time, in context, and in the details that do not always make it onto paper.

This is a small look into that week.
More stories from this visit soon!

A year ago, she stood in Bulata and imagined what could be.

What began as a simple birthday fundraiser by Rhoda Phillips grew into something far greater, built through the generosity of so many, from children and schools to partners and friends across the world.

She stands in that same space again. This time, with a library. And with children stepping into it for the very first time.

Rhoda is deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible. This space exists because of you.

Not just a library, but a beginning of stories, dreams, and futures.

This World Health Day, we’re celebrating how caring for nature also means caring for people.

In two Indigenous villages in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, communities living along the Jelundung River -- a tributary of the Melawi River within the Kapuas River system -- still rely on it for clean water, food, and daily life. But illegal gold mining upstream has polluted connected part of the river system, reducing access to safe water and contributing to rising cases of diarrhea, skin diseases, malnutrition, and stunting.

Through the Green Spark Fund, Alam Sehat Lestari is working hand-in-hand with communities to restore traditional food and medicinal plant systems.

The Indigenous Health and Food Project supports families to:
🌱 Grow traditional vegetables and medicinal plants
🌱 Establish community gardens and seed banks
🌱 Revive Indigenous knowledge led by elders, women, and youth
🌱 Strengthen nutrition, hygiene, and local health practices

Around 150 households are directly involved, with approximately 1,300 people indirectly benefiting from stronger food systems, improved health, and renewed cultural pride.

A powerful reminder that healthy forests help create healthy communities. 🌏

Four years ago, this journey began with a shared vision. Today, it’s a story of communities stepping confidently into their own leadership.

Through Project ACE, in partnership with Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation and LMAX Group, communities in Southern Negros are now planning, implementing, and driving their own initiatives for people and nature.

What began as partnership has grown into shared ownership, and that’s the kind of change that lasts.

If your organization or company is looking to support community-led environmental action, we’d love to connect and explore how we can work together.

Long-term social and environmental impact doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when funding is sustained. When governance is clear. When communities are trusted as leaders.

At Communities for Nature, we design partnerships that combine corporate ambition, scientific expertise, and grassroots leadership — creating systems that continue long after projects formally end.

Whether you’re building an ESG programme or strengthening a community initiative, the principle is the same: meaningful change takes time, trust, and structure.
