Applied Ecology Resources and Ecological Solutions & Evidence Publishing and sharing ecological research and insights with direct relevance for the management of biological resources and ecological systems

Applied Ecology Resources (AER) is a globally accessible open platform by the British Ecological Society that makes sharing and discovering information on the management of biodiversity easier for everyone in the ecological community. At the heart of AER is a new peer-reviewed open access journal, Ecological Solutions and Evidence. The journal publishes articles with direct relevance for the management of biological resources and ecological systems and is part of the freely accessible resource available on AER.

🤔 Do we need to some landscapes to have in others?

This Registered Report explores the potential of polyculture to give us high biodiversity + yields in the same place – moving beyond the land-sharing/sparing dichotomy

Do we need to sacrifice biodiversity in some landscapes in order to conserve biodiversity in others? This protocol sets out the methodology for a systematic map of evidence on yield- and biodiversity...

📸 Can we monitor whether habitats reclaimed on sands can mitigate for the impacts of past disturbance + sufficiently support wildlife? Hawkes et al. demonstrate that data can help reliably assess reclamation success

Find out more:

A quasi-experiment and an innovative occupancy model were used to assess trends in wildlife species over a 15-year period. Results are consistent with expectations and point to the use of camera trap...

🚗🌱 Roadsides seeded with prairie mixes have more native flowers than those seeded with non-native mixes, but both types of sites get colonized by species. Discover how to refine seed mixes to help pollinators while reducing costs:

We performed floral surveys in revegetated roadside sites that were 2–20 years old, and were either seeded with diverse native grassland mixes or non-native mixes. We found that seeding native forbs ...

🐝🥼10-a-day keeps the doctor away! pollen loads contain a surprisingly consistent number of plant species, regardless of the species, field site or time of year. What could be driving this tendency towards such a consistent foraging breadth? Read the full study:
