https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/765364

This petition has been set up to highlight various flaws in relation to how carers are treated when it comes to how much they are allowed to earn before their carers allowance is cut - and there is no gradual reduction. The cut in allowance is a complete cut even if you earn £1 in relation to the income limit.

Sign and share in your Branches please.
Thanks

Many unpaid carers balance demanding caring responsibilities with the need to remain financially secure. We believe the current limit allowable for carers to earn is set way too low. It makes it difficult for carers to work, take on a second job, or rent out property to supplement their income.

Following the revised EHRC guidance on the Supreme Court Ruling in Scotland last year, we would like to take this opportunity of sharing the TUC statement on this issue, which fully aligns with where we stand on this matter.

TUC statement regarding the Equality and Human Rights Commission recently published revised Equality Act 2010 Code of Practice for Services, public functions and associations.

Trade Unions from all over the country descended on Durham Pride to send a massive signal to the Reform-controlled local authority, that their attacks on the LGBT+ community will not be tolerated - the withdrawal of funding by Reform for Durham Pride was the spark for a great show of solidarity and a wonderful celebration, with thousands of people attending to support Durham Pride. And what made it possible was the trade unions, a point that CWU NEC LGBT+ Lead Maria Exall made strongly when she addressed the crowds. She added "Today is a really positive day for the movement. It shows Unions being there for you at work but also being there to defend your rights outside of work, against prejudice and discrimination in society."

There was a really good show of support from the North East region with many CWU Branches represented. Solidarity and unity will always win the day over division and intolerance.

CWU delegates have just returned from an excellent few days in Bournemouth attending the TUC Disability Conference. There were a number of powerful debates particularly on PiP provision, Access to Work, Disability Rights in Maternity Care and much more. The CWU motion on Reasonable Adjustments saw one of the longest debates of the Conference with delegates from 12 unions joining in on the discussion.

We would like to congratulate Mark Anthony Bastiani who was successfully elected on the TUC Disability Committee. Our thanks to all our delegates for making it a great conference.

The Equality Day session passed off with a bang with some excellent debates, some live music, and brilliant guest speakers. In fact there were three standing ovations for Billy Bragg, Matthew Collins and Andrew Voyce respectively.

The afternoon got off to a rousing speech by Head of Equality, Education & Development Kate Hudson, who packed several key themes into her address to conference, ranging from the need for unity over hate, solidarity with the Trans community and so much more. She said the union movement has a big role to play in making sure the politics of hate are stopped in its track and this can only happen through education and speaking with our members.

Billy Bragg then sang The Power in the Union, which was so fitting. This was a big surprise for delegates with many rushing to get selfies before and after his song. Guest speaker Matthew Collins then took Conference on a powerful journey which was incredibly eye-opening, essentially going over his time as a leading member of the National Front to now being a leading anti-racist and anti-fascism campaigner. After his session his books sold out in 20 minutes!

After some more debates, including some really emotional contributions on dementia and endometriosis, Andrew Voyce took to the stage to speak about his journey and how he coped with Schizophrenia.

Our thanks to the delegates and Branch Reps as ever - we hope you enjoyed Equality Day - we always like to do things a bit differently and hope you took a lot out of the session.
