OneRichmond's Winter Campaign is raising funds for our first Participatory Grant Making project, focusing on improving the lives of children facing a variety of challenges across our borough.

Participatory Grant Making is all about local people with lived experience of local need making informed decisions about how local resources are used to improve their community. Every donation you make will be used to build a more supportive and resilient borough for everyone.

Nobody knows our borough better than you, the residents. Our Participatory Grant Making panel will give residents the power to make a real difference within their own communities.

What would you direct resources towards? Is there a local project, charity, or community group that are making a big impact in our borough? Let us know in the comments, and make sure to subscribe to our newsletter at the link in our bio to stay in the loop!

Crossroads Care Richmond & Kingston are just one of the hundreds of charities working tirelessly to support young people in our borough who are struggling, as well as their families and carers.

We spoke with Crossroads Care about their specialist mentoring project, which supports young people facing complex issues by connecting them with a mentor and a community that can provide specific, practical support that is tailored to their individual needs and circumstances. The project focuses on building confidence, resilience, and a greater sense of connection, working with families, carers, and the young people themselves to help them feel better prepared for their futures.

Each person's situation is different, and therefore requires individualised support. Crossroads build long-term relationships with their mentees, offering a stable and consistent support network that a young person can return to as and when needed.

Your donations make the work of charities like Crossroads possible. To find out more about how you can support local charities in your borough, click on the link in our bio.

Rooted in place. Powered by community.

Transforming Places Together: Learning from 16 Years of Place-Based Giving is a new report by Funders Together combining learning from 16 years of communities, funders and local partners working together to strengthen places.

Across 27 place-based giving schemes, communities have raised more than £92 million, supporting local organisations and creating new ways for people to shape the future of their communities - but the story is about more than the money.

It is about relationships, local knowledge, trust and shared power. It's about what becomes possible when funding is shaped with communities, rather than simply delivered to them.

OneRichmond are so proud to be part of this incredible network of Place-Based Giving schemes across the country. Over the past 16 years, the movement has grown into a powerful force for community action and investment, supporting local people to make real, tangible change within their own communities.

This new report not only assesses the impact of 16 years of Place-Based Giving, it offers a glimpse into the future of the movement. "It has inspired me to be more confident; it has been very, very helpful."

Yesterday Elohime, alongside three other young people from our borough, took part in a workshop day in the City with top recruitment company MKH Search as part of our Work Ready - Future Ready pilot programme. Over the past few months, they have been working with recruitment specialists, lead by Damien Nicholls, to develop their confidence and skillset and support their first steps into their chosen careers.

They had a chance to meet recruitment professionals in-person, gaining insight into interview technique and networking advice. They discussed where to look for jobs, how to tailor a CV and cover letter, and how to turn rejection or disinterest into meaningful feedback or even a job offer. We are looking forward to following their journeys, supported by MKH Search, as they put what they have learned into practise.

Job hunting can be a daunting and demoralising task, particularly for young people who have recently graduated school or university. The London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames has one of the fastest growing unemployment rates in the capital, and as competition for work grows, young people who are already facing challenges - such as additional caring responsibilities, access requirements, or coming from low income backgrounds - are often hardest hit. OneRichmond's Work Ready - Future Ready programme was developed with MKH Search and their director Joshua Moench to support these young people in particular, and give them the chance to thrive in whatever field they aspire to enter.

Joining our Development Board for 2026/27 is Lisa Dobinson, a Richmond borough local who has spent the past 28 years in the borough, including volunteering locally and raising her family here.

After graduating from Exeter Lisa joined British Airways, working in their Marketing and Communications Brand Department on the Executive Club Loyalty Programme. Thirteen years later, she left BA and worked for various charities including roles as a Fundraising Manager at Tommy’s, the Baby Charity and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as the Adoption Manager.

She then retrained as a Psychotherapist, studying a Masters at Regents College, London whilst working at the Metro Clinic in Greenwich and Kingston Hospital, before deciding to have children and become a stay at home mum. Alongside this she set up and ran the Community Café in Teddington for five years, as well as volunteering at the Hygiene Bank in Hampton for the last five years.

She is now retraining in holistic therapies such as Reflexology and Emotional Freedom Therapy. Lisa is passionate about wellbeing and she is committed to improving mental health for all in the local area.

Mental health challenges can feel isolating and overwhelming for many young people across our borough. As waiting lists for statutory services get longer, charities such as Off The Record Twickenham offer a vital space for young people to feel safe, heard, and understood, and take the first step towards getting help.

Off The Record offer free and confidential counselling and drop-in services, including their sexual health clinic at eight locations around the borough, as well as online.

We are so pleased to welcome Jenna McDonald to the OneRichmond Development Board!

Jenna McDonald is Business Development & Partnerships Lead at London Gynaecology, where she develops partnerships across healthcare, business and the community to improve awareness of and access to specialist women’s healthcare.

Her commitment to women’s health is also personal. Having navigated her own complex health experiences, Jenna is passionate about creating a future where people feel better informed, listened to and empowered when it comes to their health.

She is also the founder of The Table, an initiative launched in Richmond that brings together healthcare experts, local leaders and communities for open conversations around health, wellbeing and the issues that often go undiscussed.

Jenna is currently part of UN Women UK’s GenEqual pilot programme, joining a cohort focused on advancing gender equality and creating meaningful social impact.
Through OneRichmond, Jenna hopes to use her experience in partnerships and community-building to support a healthier, better-connected Richmond and keep women’s health firmly part of the conversation.
