It has been two months since Merseyside Army Cadet Force’s Steve O’Connor began his ‘Challenge 48’. A two-year fundraising challenge that will see Steve run 48 marathons, one for each ACF county, in support of ACCT UK.

This week, Steve heads to North Yorkshire to take on the demanding Yorkshire Three Peaks - a route spanning 38.6 km with 5,200 feet of elevation.

Best of luck, Steve! We're looking forward to hearing how this marathon goes!

Follow Steve’s fundraising page to see which UK route he tackles next, and donate to support his Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge this Sunday: https://givestar.io/gs/48-marathons-48-counties-48-peaks

Last week, Joyce Quinn, ACCT UK Trustee, visited 1st Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force Elgin Detachment parents’ open night to present the cadets and adult volunteers with ACCT UK's Cadet Challenge 2025 Group Award.

The cadets showcased their work from the past year and shared stories of their incredible fundraising efforts, including LCpl Robinson’s bridge swing, and the impact Cadet Challenge 2025 had on those who took part.

WO2 Wells accepted the trophy alongside CSgt Wareing, who has raised almost £650 this year through her static cycle challenge from Elgin to CTC Frimley Park.

After the presentation, parents and visitors had the opportunity to engage with First Aid, Fieldcraft, and Drill stands led by the cadets.

Of particular note is the detachment’s approach to fundraising at every opportunity. Even the tea and coffee stand raised £50.45 through donations, showing that small, simple ideas can add real value to fundraising efforts.

Well done to everyone involved!

We are proud to congratulate Dyfed and Glamorgan Army Cadets's Cadet Lewys Jones on receiving an ACCT UK Praiseworthy Action Award for his courage and compassion during an emergency.

While travelling with his mum, Cadet Jones witnessed a serious road traffic collision when a car crashed through a hedge and into a field. Understanding time was an important factor, Lewys immediately called 999 and retrieved a first aid kit and fire blanket from the car to tend to those involved with the accident.

Cadet Jones later supported police with a clear, detailed account while the casualty was airlifted to hospital.

Cadet Jones showed calm, courage, and care for others when it mattered most. Your quick thinking and bravery make you a real asset to your community - we are incredibly proud of you!

We’re delighted to share that Sally Orange MBE will be our Guest of Honour at the 2025 ACCT UK Excellence Awards in London next week!

A former British Army Major, Army Cadet Force Ambassador, and extraordinary endurance athlete, Sally embodies the very values we celebrate through these awards.

The ACCT UK Excellence Awards celebrate those going above and beyond their duty within the non-military fields of the Army Cadet Force, including First Aid, Community Service, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and Fundraising. We look to celebrate these areas of the cadet syllabus as they are vital in developing confidence, teamwork, leadership, and a strong sense of purpose in young people across the UK.

Having attended the Excellence Awards' 10th anniversary event last year, Sally had this to say about the upcoming ceremony:

"I am truly honoured to be attending the ACCT UK Excellence Awards as the Guest of Honour. As the National Ambassador for the Army Cadet Force, I have seen first-hand the incredible impact that cadets, adult volunteers and supporters have on young people's lives.

I am looking forward to celebrating the remarkable achievements, dedication and resilience of this year's winners and recognising the positive difference they make within their communities and beyond."

Sally’s journey perfectly mirrors the spirit of our cadets and adult volunteers. Her story reminds us that excellence is not just about achievement, but about courage, character, and supporting one another.

We are honoured to welcome her as we celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of cadets and volunteers who go above and beyond every day!

ACCT UK's Excellence Awards are supported by BAE Systems with additional contributions from AMMO & Company Ltd and HORIBA MIRA

Described by his Commandant, Colonel Calver, as “an inspiration for other cadets”, our final Excellence Award winner is Cadet Under Officer Ewan Diyar.

Ewan chose to take on his first-ever 10k run in October 2025 to raise funds for ACCT UK, motivated by a simple belief that all cadets should have the same life‑changing opportunities that he’s been able to enjoy. Balancing A‑level mocks, cadet responsibilities and everyday commitments, Ewan planned and delivered his fundraising challenge entirely on his own.

He completed the run in an impressive 1 hour 8 minutes, raising over £800, and even crossed the finish line with a perfectly timed ‘eyes right’ to the fellow cadets cheering him on.

Reflecting on his award, Cadet Under Officer Diyar said:

“Without ACCT UK, cadets like myself would never have the chance to access such amazing
experiences, and so I felt it was only right to give back to the organisation, so future cadets can also enjoy these opportunities."

We’re incredibly proud to recognise Ewan’s commitment, leadership and generosity. A truly well‑deserved Excellence Award winner!

We’ve introduced you to our Welsh 3000s team… now it’s time to meet the second group taking on our incredible staff fundraising challenge!

Our Snowdon Horseshoe team will be setting off at 7am on 17 June to take on one of the most iconic ridge walks in Wales. Covering 11–12 miles and more than 900m of ascent, they’ll tackle the breathtaking (and challenging!) route across Crib Goch, Crib y Ddysgl, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), and Y Lliwedd.

It will be a demanding journey, but one the ACCT UK team are proud to take on together.

Led by expert instructors from the Cadet Activity Training Centre in Capel Curig, the team will be pushing themselves to raise awareness of the positive impact cadets have on young people and to fund life-changing opportunities for army cadets and volunteers across the UK.

If you can, please show your support. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference: https://givestar.io/ev/welsh-3000s-staff-charity-challenge

Together, we can help more young people discover their potential through the Army Cadets.

Congratulations to Army Cadets Northern Ireland 2nd Battalion's WO2 Steven Bain as he concludes the first stage of his fundraising journey today!

Over the last week, Steven has been taking part in the Portuguese Camino - an iconic European pilgrimage in support of ACCT UK, all while raising awareness of men's mental health and walking in memory of Cadet Jaidyn Rice, who tragically passed away in 2025.

Ahead of his journey, Steven explained what inspired him to take on the physically demanding challenge:

"Jaidyn's death has strengthened my determination to take on these challenges and dedicate my time to inspire the youth of today to live life to the fullest, achieve their goals, and play an active role in their communities. Young people are our future, and through the ACF we aim to instil the values that guide everything we do: courage, discipline, respect, integrity, loyalty and selfless commitment."

Not looking to slow down once he returns from Portugal, in August, Steven will be accompanied by a team of 40 Cadets and adult volunteers for their "Centurians' Challenge 26" where the group will walk the full length of Hadrian's Wall in support of ACCT UK. Thank you, WO2 Bain, we are inspired by your dedication to such an important cause!
