15th St Pancras Scouts

15th St Pancras Scouts Fun, challenge, and everyday adventure for all girls and boys aged 8-14 across Camden Robert Baden-Powell was a Colonel in the British Army.

Inspired by the imagination, spirit and courage of 40 young cadets defending Mafikeng in 1899 during the 2nd Boer War, he held the first scout camp in August 1907 in Poole Harbour with 11 boys from Eaton and Harrow and 10 from Boys' Brigades on the South Coast. Such diversity was an intriguing experiment in Edwardian Britain (and Empire) but it worked out well. He published a series of six "Scouti

ng for Boys" magazines the following year and 15th St Pancras Scout Troop began a few years after WW1 in 1921. Scouting spread quickly worldwide. A century later there are over 30M boys and girls involved in everyday adventures and sometimes in monumental events like the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. Scouts have gone on to row across oceans, climb the world's highest mountains, become presidents of their nations and walk on the moon. Trust, Loyalty, Friendship, Family, Courage, Care and Respect. https://youtu.be/N388CtFGCMU

That's us! Just before St Pancras station was built and 50 years before our scout group got going, this is what our neighbourhood looked like 🤓

St Pancras before the station (1865)

This map was published just before the London terminus arrived and obliterated a number of former streets: Brewer Street, Skinner Street and various side streets disappeared. Also for the chop was the original site for Brill Market, one of the notable Victorian-era markets of London.

Another notable victim was most of St Pancras Churchyard.

56 years ago today, Neil Armstrong made history as the first person to set foot on the moon! 👨‍🚀🌕

One small step for man, one giant leap for Scouting too ⚜️ As an Eagle Scout, Armstrong even took his World Scout Badge to the moon. 🤩

Okay, real question: if you were headed to the moon, which Scouting item would you bring with you? 🧳🌕💭
