🎉Classically Black 2025 Is Live!🫶🏾

We’re back — and it’s bigger than ever.

After a sold-out debut in 2024, Classically Black returns for its second edition at Kings Place this October — and this time, we’re also celebrating 5 years of Black Lives in Music.

Classically Black is a groundbreaking one-day festival that amplifies and elevates Black and global majority talent in classical music — artists, composers, and creatives whose voices are too often unheard in traditional spaces.

From reimagined sounds to bold storytelling, this is classical music through a new lens: culture-rich, future-facing, and artist-led.

Here’s what’s happening on Saturday 18 October:

Children & Young People’s Workshop Sharing Session
Led by composer Pete Letanka , with young musicians from Music in Secondary Schools Trust,

Spotlight Panel: Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves
With Paulette Bayley, Amina Hussain, Amanda Baldwin, and Rianna Henriques,

New Works: From Historical to Hip-Hop
Featuring Sabi Ensemble, .ensemble , Simmy Singh, and The Jollof House Party Opera
Keynote by Dr Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason

The Next Movement: Evolving Sounds at Classically Black
A dynamic showcase of rising and redefining talent, curated from our nationwide call-out

After Classically Black ends, all are invited to our 5th Anniversary Celebration hosted by DJ Spoony & Friends Live

Tickets are on sale NOW

We Were at the Table for Change

We’re serious about making change—and we’re making sure your voices are heard.

Recently, Black Lives in Music’s CEO Charisse Beaumont , sat down with Chancellor Rachel Reeves, , Deputy PM Angela Rayner, , Mayor Sadiq Khan, , & industry leaders to push for fairer licensing reforms.

We’re at the table because your stories matter. Through the REMEL survey, we’re gathering real experiences from Black and Asian-led events to demand change and break down barriers in the night-time economy.

Reforming the system could unlock over 10,000 new events annually—boosting jobs, creativity, and opportunities.

We’re doing the work. Your voice makes it undeniable.

📢 The BBC’s Report on Tim Westwood Confirms What We’ve Always Known

The long-awaited review into the BBC’s handling of complaints against Tim Westwood has confirmed years of institutional failure. For too long, women were ignored, their voices dismissed, and harm was allowed to continue unchecked.

We stand with the survivors who came forward—their bravery is the only reason this report exists. We also acknowledge those who remain unheard, who were silenced by fear, power, and an industry that too often protects abusers instead of the people it should serve.

This is not just about one man. It is about the structures that enabled him. It is about an industry that time and time again allows harm to happen in the shadows. BLiM’s own Harassment & Bullying Report highlighted similar patterns—deep-rooted failures that continue to impact Black, Asian and ethnically diverse women in the music industry today.

Apologies and reviews are not enough. We need real action, real accountability, and real change.

We will not stop pushing for a music industry that prioritises safety, dignity, and justice over power and profit.
