Our next Tales From The Shadows feature is debut director and writer Phoebe-rose Redman:

💛LAC experience
I joined the LAC in 2025 and have performed in Nell Gwynn, Be my Baby and the 2026 Cabaret.

🎭Debut as a director
Directing is an amazing opportunity for me to experience putting together a production from behind the scenes, and it’s a challenge for me as I am not used to being in a leadership position.

👻Tales from the Shadows
The Weeping Key is my feminist interpretation of the classic fairytale Bluebeard and is a timeless piece that explores the power dynamics within controlling relationships, and the roles women are expected to play.

It is a story that is still incredibly relevant and is an important and confronting look at power, masculinity, femininity and curiosity. Given the stories we hear in the news daily and the experiences of women we all know, it is a story for the past and our time.

⭐We’re excited to be hosting BOYHOOD on Tuesday 20th October 7.30pm fresh from its run at the Pleasance Theatre.

Developed with local young people, and created by the Merton-based Attic Theatre Company who are passionate that local audiences get to experience it.

BOYHOOD is an explosive new play following a young Londoner navigating mates, masculinity... and unplanned fatherhood. Two actors and a live hip-hop score bring Jay’s story vividly to life in a brand-new production.

👀Pay what you like – donations will be collected at the end of the performance. Unallocated seating, doors open at 7pm. Suitable for 14+

Tales from the Shadows marks the directorial debut of several members of the LAC community so we thought we’d find out a bit more from each of them, and first up is Danny Welsh…

💛LAC experience
I’ve been involved at the LAC all my life - from Children's Theatre Club to Youth Theatre to main house shows. Most recently, I've been in Kipps, Sister Act, Rapunzel, and soon the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat this December!

🎭Debut as a Director
I’ve especially enjoyed watching the characters I imagined come to life thanks to my brilliant actors. There is a lot of logistical responsibility coordinating set, props, costume, music, sound effects, and lighting to fit my vision but it's so rewarding to see them all come together.

👻Tales from the Shadows
I am directing an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's classic detective story The Murders in the Rue Morgue - but with a twist! Come and be intrigued, puzzled, and surprised by this dark and suspenseful murder mystery!
