A snippet of All(i)um featuring founder of 🌱

All(i)um is a conversation at its core.

Born out of an interest to explore our life cycle and the process every living being goes through from sprouting seed to eventually resting back in the earth.

We started this collaboration at the end of lockdown, probably out of an unconscious need to create again with others along with a want to connect to ideas around the cycle of life after feeling so stalled in the years previous. It began as a simple conversation between Aloha Shaw, Katie Smyth, Naomi Annand, Nandita Shankardass, Tara Franks and Preetha Narayanan. All artists working in different disciplines. Each responded to the subject in their own way coming together to create this piece expressing their own thoughts and feelings through their various creative practices.

The seemingly mundane onion became a fitting object which was used to look at these ideas further. The onion provokes visceral reactions. It’s one of the most ancient food sources but still humble. By asking questions about skin, roots, core, layers, buds, flowering, seed and growing we started to learn a lot about ourselves, life and our world. During the process we connected with the Charcoal art club, who brought women together to draw during the pandemic and created the drawings featured in the film.

This piece is part of a now ongoing conversation which examines life using the resilient onion in different ways as a tool for exploration” Katie Smyth

⚠️ Spotlight on causes of the Pakistan floods ⚠️ from our dear friend and sustainable business consultant, Mishal Noor .

1/3 of Pakistan is now under water, with over 33 million displaced and countless killed.

Following this disaster, Rimmel Mohydin, Amnesty International’s Pakistan Campaigner, has said, “States that have enriched themselves using fossil fuels and other unsustainable practices must meet their international obligations. They must provide compensation, and other forms of remedy for the loss and damage people are suffering in Pakistan”. ()

South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh remain highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This is not a drill. 💔🌍

Founders of Stylhawk - Hetal Patel and Dharmistha J. Patel, USA, 🇺🇸👩🏽👩🏽🌏

With backgrounds in Business, Hetal and Dharmistha created to help protect the environment by keeping luxury South Asian clothing in use for longer. Stylhawk is an online Marketplace App for users to come together to buy and sell their brand new or pre-loved clothing and accessories. Their aim is for consumers to feel and look their best without spending a fortune, keeping in mind most Indian luxury and unique pieces are only worn once or twice and come with a hefty price tag. The platform provides space for sellers to recoup the majority of their initial investment and buyers to be able to purchase those unique pieces at a fraction of the retail cost.

For more information, read the Q&A blog on our website 🌐

Image text: They quote: "We attend many occasions where traditional clothing is worn and although we loved dressing up in new fancy clothes every time, it didn't make sense financially or environmentally… Not knowing what to do with current South Asian clothing and not being able to afford a new one every time was the same story heard from friends and family. This became the true motivation for creating this platform."
