Repetitive strain injuries at sea are all too common, and due to the time constraints and nature of work, can go unaddressed and worsen with time.

Prevention is our priority! That's why we’ve teamed up with physiotherapist Jen Bowden of The Beachside Clinic to show you some simple, low intensity exercises you can use to prevent them!

These exercises can be done with in limited spaces and with minimal equipment, so why not try them at home or at work? Visit our YouTube channel to get started https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrgHzAWZES7WjsGnS2VaHbuatSPE-FuPH&feature=shared

Do you think you may be neurodivergent? Are you looking for support to access a diagnosis and the reasonable adjustments that could help you thrive at work?

The Seafarers’ Hospital Society (SHS) is here to help. 💙

We’re committed to addressing overlooked areas of health and welfare provision across the maritime sector. Through our partnership with Neurodiversatsea and The Seafarers’ Charity, we’re delighted to offer grants to working seafarers to help fund assessments for conditions including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and other specific learning differences.

For many seafarers, accessing a formal assessment and diagnosis can be an important step towards understanding their needs, accessing appropriate support and reaching their full potential at work. But assessments can be costly and involve lengthy waiting times.

If you’re a seafarer and think this support could help you, we may be able to help.

For fishermen like Jess, it can be incredibly difficult to find time for dental appointments when balancing the reality of making a living at sea!

Long hours, time spent at sea and unpredictable working patterns mean it can be all to easy to neglect oral health! That’s why we work with Dentaid The Dental Charity and the Fishermen's Mission to take vital dental services directly to the fishing community on the quayside.

Dentaid’s state-of-the-art mobile surgeries provide a range of free and accessible dental services and immediate treatment for fishers, and their families as part of our health events.

"Don't hide, don't do what I did...I nearly died...Put your hand out and ask for help, I know it's the hardest thing you'll ever do, but please do it".

An incredibly powerful chat with Adrian, a crab fisherman from Dartmouth, who attended one of our events in Cornwall this year.

Adrian visited the event in Mevagissey for dental treatment thanks to our partnership with Dentaid The Dental Charity, and spoke to us about his experience with the Fishermen's Mission's dedicated local staff, whose help he described as life saving!

At SHS, we are proud to be a part of , working with The Fishermen's Mission to bring vital health and welfare services directly to the fishing community on the quayside, and narrowing the healthcare gap among coastal communities.
