Then come on down to D4100 on Nunhead Green on the 28th of November for a cosy evening of pub quizzing and pizza with THWR!
Established in July 2021, THWR is one of hundreds of community refugee sponsorship groups across the UK. Our aim is to sponsor refugee families to settle into life in the UK and the local community, facilitating access to housing, healthcare, ESOL, schooling, work opportunities and much more.
As part of the government's community sponsorship scheme we support one refugee family at a time for a period of up to two years. In January last year we welcomed our first family and this was such a success that they've already been able to become independent, moving closer to extended family in another part of the UK. We are currently gearing up to welcome another family in the new year and in order to give them the best possible start, we need more volunteers - particularly with daytime availability.
As it becomes increasingly difficult for refugees to enter the UK, schemes like THWR provide a vital lifeline. Plus they are an incredibly rewarding way to get involved in your community and create meaningful connections.
