Dr Chelvan, Head of Immigration and Public Law at @33 Bedford Row Chambers and Chair of the Executive, contributed to the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA). He was invited as an expert of refugee claims based on Sexual orientation/identity, Gender identity and Expression).
Dr Chelvan’s presentation was called ‘Creating Sanctuary in the Courtroom: your turn to Speak, my turn to Listen’. At this meeting, he also launched ‘The Safe SPACE model’. SPACE stands for ‘Safety, Person, Asylum Claim, Control and Evidence’. This model seeks to help judges create a safe place in the Courtroom, and it was launched for over 50 Court of Tribunal Judges.
Dr Chelvan joined ABTL’s Executive as its Chair in January 2022 to support our work for greater diversity and representation in the legal sector.
