Parkinson’s disease can affect memory, attention, language, and problem-solving skills. Research shows that cognitive changes may occur even in the early stages of Parkinson’s.

While brain games are not a cure, activities that challenge the mind can help support cognitive function, encourage social interaction, and improve overall quality of life.

✨ Simple activities like puzzles, reading, strategy games, creative hobbies and social engagement can make a difference.

🧔🏽‍♂️🧠 In recognition of Men’s Health Week, we’re spotlighting Parkinson’s disease in men.

Parkinson’s symptoms often develop gradually, which makes them easy to miss or dismiss as normal ageing or stress.

Research suggests that men are about twice as likely to develop Parkinson’s disease as women, yet early signs are frequently overlooked.

While tremors are widely recognised, Parkinson’s may also begin with slower movements, muscle stiffness, balance and walking difficulties, among other symptoms.

Recognising these signs early can make a real difference, helping individuals access timely diagnosis, treatment, support, and lifestyle adjustments.

If you notice several of these symptoms in yourself or someone close to you, consider speaking with a healthcare professional.

💙 Early recognition matters.

Have you ever noticed someone living with Parkinson’s saying they feel “stuck” even though they want to move, speak, or carry out a simple action?

This is known as freezing.

While it is often linked to walking, freezing can also affect speech, hand movements, standing up, turning, and other everyday activities.

Freezing can feel frustrating, unpredictable, and at times unsafe, as it increases the risk of falls. That’s why understanding it is so important, not just for those living with Parkinson’s, but also for their care partners, families, and communities.

💡 Freezing is a symptom of Parkinson’s disease. It is not laziness, stubbornness, or a lack of effort.

Greater awareness leads to better understanding. Better understanding leads to stronger, more compassionate support.

🧠 Did you know?

For some people living with Parkinson’s disease, protein-rich meals may interfere with how well Levodopa is absorbed, potentially delaying symptom relief.

This doesn’t mean avoiding protein, it remains essential for strength, immunity, and overall health. The key is proper meal timing and personalized medical advice.

Always speak with your healthcare team about the best nutrition plan for you.

Stiffness is one of the most common challenges people living with Parkinson’s experience, but regular stretching can help.

Daily stretching may help reduce rigidity, improve posture, maintain flexibility, and make everyday activities easier. Even a few minutes each day can support better movement and overall well-being.

These five simple stretches can be added to your daily routine to help maintain mobility and flexibility. Perform each stretch slowly and gently, staying within a comfortable range of motion. Stop if you experience pain, dizziness, or discomfort.

⚠️Please consult your healthcare professional or physiotherapist before starting a new exercise routine.

💬 Which stretch helps you feel your best? Let us know in the comments.

🧠 Why does early diagnosis matter in Parkinson’s disease?

Early diagnosis can help people access treatment, specialist care, and support sooner, while giving individuals and families time to make informed decisions and adopt healthy lifestyle habits.

Early recognition can support better symptom management and help maintain independence and quality of life for longer.

💙 Save and share to raise awareness.

🧠 Brain health influences every part of our daily lives, from how we think, learn, and remember to how we move, communicate, and connect with the world around us.

For people living with Parkinson’s disease, brain health is particularly important. Beyond movement symptoms, Parkinson’s can also affect cognition, mood, sleep, and overall well-being, making brain health a key part of living well with the condition.

This month, we encourage everyone to prioritise habits that support a healthier brain.

💬 What is one thing you do to support your brain health? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
