This is Kate - one of our charity trustees, well known to many in the London surf community.
Kate first discovered surfing in 2016 with a few waves on holiday but not much progress (we know the feeling). In 2020 things changed and she committed to surfing more in an effort to move past the ‘start from scratch’ approach. During the pandemic, she switched attention to surfskating on dry land when it wasn’t possible to access waves (she still coaches surfskating when landlocked in London today).
In 2023, Kate took a break from the 9-5 to surf her way around Latin America and Asia.
Back in the UK, she trained as a surf coach, sharing her passion and experience with others. She comes on all our trips and is a key figure in the water, helping build our young people’s confidence. Kate is also now a qualified adaptive surf instructor, better equipping her when coaching those with additional needs due to physical or cognitive disabilities, learning difficulties, illness or injuries.
With all these skills we’re super lucky to have Kate on board. She also coaches with The Wave Project and Concrete Waves London and, in 2025, was appointed as a coach for the Team England Para (Adaptive) surf squad.
Kate says: “Surfing has transformed my life in so many ways - it’s my passion, my escape, my therapy, not to mention a constant physical and mental challenge, but it has also offered me the opportunity to travel the world, meet amazing people from countless cultures and backgrounds, and become a part of a global surf community - I wish I‘d stumbled upon it sooner. When the opportunity came up to join City Kids Surfing as a Trustee, I jumped at the chance - City Kids represents everything I am passionate about and shows our kids that the ocean and its benefits are for everyone”.

Thank you Kate 🙏
See you in the water 🏄♀️
