Hello all

Hard to believe it's so soon, but a new month starts next week, and with it the first Friday of the month, so it's Friday Night Hive again, at Kingston Hive, Cyclehub, 47, Wood Street, Kingston Upon Thames, KT1 1UJ.

So on Friday week, 4th September, between 6-8:00pm, at Friday Night Hive, once again we will have some free nibbles from our good friends at Stud Farm and some free b**r and soft drinks in the fridge. By all means bring something to contribute if it floats your boat, we like a pot luck. We hope to have some live entertainment on the night, probably out in the street in front of the building.

Lots to talk about following a long, hot, dry summer, and with more People's Emergency Briefings being held across the borough (see here for detailshttps://www.nebriefing.org/)

Please come along for some or part of the evening if you can, we are hoping these meet ups will give us the opportunity to unwind, hang out and explore our common interests, which feels like a useful thing to do in these days of mostly digital connections and social, political and climate instability. Our mantra is "whatever the problem community is the answer". We stole it from Margaret Wheatley, but we're sure she doesn't mind! :)

Look forward to seeing you

Dani, Divya and Tony

Join thousands of people taking to their local community spaces to share in the wave of interest and concern over the imapcts of global overheating and nature breakdown on our everyday lives and what needs to happen to make the world a safer place for all.

The film features leading scientists, a former general, a couple of celebs and ordinary people explaining and responding to a parliamentary briefing held late last year, and calls for the UK government to address the nation via a National Briefing

Important themes arising include food, health, and national security, while also discussing practical, positive solutions.

A gentle listening circle on climate, grief, resilience and community — a supportive, non-therapeutic space to share and listen.

Lifehouse: Togetherness, Resilience, Power is a one-hour facilitated listening circle for people navigating feelings, reflections, and uncertainty around climate change and societal collapse. This is not a therapy session or a space for debate or problem-solving, but a calm and respectful space to listen, witness, and share honestly with others. Through collective reflection and conversation, we aim to foster connection, mutual support, and a deeper sense of community resilience in challenging times.

IMPORTANT NOTE- This is an online meeting, the link is shared after you have signed up.

**CLOSING SOON- Kingston’s Local Plan consultation**

The plan is intended to shape how Kingston develops up to 2043, including where thousands of new homes will be built.

We’re particularly concerned about proposals to build on Metropolitan Open Land and environmentally sensitive areas, including:

Motspur Park Gasholders — 440 homes on Metropolitan Open Land, alongside the Beverley Brook, with important habitat and flood risk. Kingston Council previously refused a planning application for this site, before the Mayor of London called it in and approved a larger scheme for 586 homes.

Hogsmill Sewage Treatment Works — 200 homes on Metropolitan Open Land, within Flood Zones 2 and 3 and alongside the Hogsmill ecological corridor and chalk stream.

The Council has declared both a climate and ecological emergency. Its own assessment identifies potential negative impacts on biodiversity and climate resilience at these sites.

We need homes, but we also need the green spaces, habitats, rivers and natural systems that help protect Kingston from climate change.

Where we build matters. How we build matters too.

This is the final Regulation 19 consultation, so comments should focus on whether the Plan is legally compliant and “sound” — for example, whether its proposals are justified by the evidence and consistent with the Council’s climate, biodiversity and environmental commitments.

The consultation closes 4 September 2026.

You don’t need to be a planning expert. If you care about Kingston’s future, your voice matters.

We want to say huge THANKS to Balance for the delicious food they made for local community groups on Friday and Saturday, what a treat! We held neighbourly get togethers at Kingston Hive and Jubilee Sq New Malden because we know that when times are tough it's important to know your neighbours, someone said to us "it's always better to make a friend before you need one" we agree but we also see that community connectedness and supportive acts towards each other is a vital component of caring for the world we share.

We also want to say that while we all managed with the high temps it was far from ideal. Despite creating shade, providing cool drinks and fans the temps were at times v uncomfortable.

With that in mind we are grateful to the Centre for Climate Communication and Data Science. For their support and ongoing research re heatwaves. If you would like to know more keep an eye out for upcoming posts.
