It is one year on today since the felling of The Happy Man Tree -local treasure and much loved winner of England Tree of the Year 2020- with 50 others healthy trees to make way for the next regeneration phase.
It was a sad day for the local community when Bekerley Homes rode roughshod of local's wishes and continued with the destruction of The Happy Man Tree...but it is also a time to look back and celebrate the amazing campaign that sprung up to try to save it.
The fight did not end that day, in fact it has inspired more local residents to protect their land, like indigenous. Regenerations are mainly driven by profit, but hopefully the collective energies of ordinary people produce enough ripples for change.
