πŸ‰ Believe in yourself. Aim high. Always lead with kindness.

At our very first TackleLondon Matt Ratana Awards, we were honoured to digitally welcome Floyd Steadman OBE - the first Black captain of Saracens - who shared his incredible journey from the care system to captaining one of English rugby's biggest clubs.

Floyd spoke openly about growing up in children's homes, being told he'd amount to nothing, and finding strength through role models like Muhammad Ali, Dr Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela. His message to our young people was simple: your circumstances don't define your future.

To top off an unforgettable evening, Floyd announced he'll be donating the Floyd Steadman Cup to our foundation πŸ† a lasting reminder that where you start doesn't have to be where you finish.

Thank you, Floyd, for your time, your honesty, and your generosity. πŸ™

This week is Carers Week 2026 (8–14 June) - a national campaign to raise awareness of unpaid carers across the UK, challenge the stigma they face, and build communities that truly support them.
In the UK, there are an estimated 5.8 million unpaid carers. Many of them are young people - children and teenagers quietly managing caring responsibilities at home alongside school and growing up, often without anyone around them knowing.
Young carers are at greater risk of social isolation, poor mental health, and disrupted education. And yet so many don’t identify as carers at all, which means they miss out on the support they need.
At TackleLondon , 32 of the young people we’ve supported are young carers. For them, rugby isn’t just a sport β€” it’s a community, a safe space, and a break from responsibilities no young person should have to carry alone.
This year’s theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities. We’re proud to be part of that. πŸ’™ Carers Week

When parliamentarians champion your work, it opens doors.

Natasha Irons MP called out Tackle London by name - recognising how rugby coaching and mentoring is giving young people the future they deserve, and calling on corporations to get involved through sponsorship and volunteering.

This work is universal. And it's just getting started.

The numbers don't lie πŸ‘‡

❌ 1.3 million girls drop out of sport in their teens.
❌ Girls get 280 MILLION fewer hours of sport per year than boys.
❌ 80% of girls feel they don't belong in sport.
βœ… But 74% of girls WANT to be more active.

The desire is there. The barriers are the problem.

Fear of judgement. Lack of confidence. Not enough role models. Not enough safe spaces.

Giving a girl access to sport gives her somewhere she belongs. A team. A community. A future.

Let's build that. πŸ’ͺ

One sport. One decision. A completely different future. πŸ‰

Kamran's sister Shannon said it best:

"If Kamran wasn't at rugby, I wouldn't know where he'd be - hanging around on the streets, maybe even in prison."

This is the power of giving young people somewhere to belong. Read Kamran's story πŸ”—https://tacklelondon.org/kamrans-story/

16,344 knife crime offences in London in 2024/25.

Behind every statistic is a young person, a family, a community changed forever. This is the reality that many of the young people we work with live alongside every single day.

It's why we show up. Every week. On pitches across London.

TackleLondon exists to give young people a place to be: free, safe, and full of people who genuinely care about them. A session at training is an evening not spent somewhere dangerous. A coach who shows up every week is a trusted adult who might just change the course of a life.

We can't solve a crisis this big alone. But we can make sure that for every young person who walks through our gates, there is somewhere safe to stand.

If you want to support that work, we'd love to hear from you.

The Ben Kinsella Trust
Knife Crime Awareness Week

22/05/2026

This week is Knife Crime Awareness Week, led by the The Ben Kinsella Trust , a charity born from unimaginable loss, dedicated to ensuring no other family has to go through what theirs did.

We stand with them. And we share this video with enormous pride in the young person who trusted us with his story.

While he was on the training pitch, his friend was stabbed. When he found out, he said: "If I hadn't been at rugby, that could have been me."

For us, that sentence holds everything. It's why our coaches show up every single week. It's why every TackleLondon session is free. It's why we work so hard to make sure young Londoners have somewhere safe to be, something to belong to, and someone who genuinely cares about them.

For some of our players, training changes the trajectory of their lives.

If you'd like to support our work and help us keep these spaces free, we'd love to hear from you.

🚨 Young people deserve better. And we're trying to do something about it.

TackleLondon works directly with schools to connect young Londoners to their local community rugby clubs β€” giving them somewhere to go, something to belong to, and people who care. πŸ‰

πŸ‰ What a night at the Academy! ⚑
Our The Matt Ratana Rugby Foundation U15s took on East Grinstead RFC U15s last week in another cracking evening of rugby - and what a performance it was.

With the scores level at 10-10 at half time, the boys dug deep and finished strong.

Full Time: Matt Ratana 20 – 41 East Grinstead U15s

Only 5 of these lads had ever played a proper contact game of rugby at U15 level before. To put in a performance like that? Absolutely outstanding. πŸ™Œ

Tries from Moses (x2) ⚑, Stefan & Jermaine - and the team voted their MVPs as Moses & Stefan. Well deserved, lads.

Brilliant attitude from start to finish. We couldn't be more proud of this group. The future is bright! πŸ’™
