This week at Tooting Bal Sanskar Group, our Gujarati classes were filled with learning, smiles, and joyful participation from all the children. The younger children learnt new Gujarati words, their meanings, and their English equivalent words, while also practising how to make simple Gujarati sentences using the given vocabulary.

Our elder group children enjoyed reading and understanding stories, followed by an interactive question round and engaging activities which encouraged confidence and participation. The class was filled with lots of fun and laughter as children explored how incorrect phonics can sometimes completely change the meaning of sentences in amusing ways.

The session began with the Manglacharan prayer and concluded peacefully with the Ashray Nu Pad prayer. All the children also enjoyed a delicious vegetarian dinner together at the end of the class.

Tooting Bal Sanskar Group extends its heartfelt thanks to all our dedicated volunteer team members for their continued support, encouragement, and commitment towards nurturing Gujarati language, culture, and values among our children.

๐ŸŒฟ Learning About Vat Savitri Vrat at Tooting Bal Sanskar Group ๐ŸŒฟ
Yesterday, the children of Tooting Bal Sanskar Group had a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and learn about Vat Savitri Vrat, a sacred Hindu festival traditionally observed by married Indian women. It was a meaningful and engaging session filled with learning, values, and fun activities.
Our lesson began with the prayers of Manglacharan, creating a spiritual and peaceful atmosphere. Children were then introduced to the significance and meaning of Vat Savitri Vrat through an informative PowerPoint presentation. They learned the inspiring story of Savitri and Satyavan โ€” including why Savitri chose Satyavan as her husband, her devotion towards her family and in-laws, and her remarkable strength of character.
Special attention was given to the story of Yama and Savitriโ€™s conversations with him, helping children understand values such as gratitude, grace, determination, wisdom, and unconditional love. The purpose and observance of the vrat were also explained, including traditional customs, prayers, rituals, and how women celebrate for the health and long life of their husbands.
To make the learning more interactive and enjoyable, an animated story in English was shown, helping children gain a deeper understanding of the festival. This was followed by a creative colouring activity where children expressed their learning through art.
Our session concluded with the prayer Ashray Nu Pad, followed by delicious Gujarati vegetarian food enjoyed by all.
Tooting Bal Sanskar Group extends sincere gratitude to all our dedicated volunteers, parents, and children for their continued support and enthusiasm. Together, we continue to nurture values, culture, and learning in our young generation.

Tooting Bal Sanskar group is celebrating
"Gujarat Sthapana Divas".

Gujarat Foundation Day is celebrated every year on 1 May to commemorate the formation of the state of Gujarat in 1960.

Historical Background
Post-Independence Status: After India gained independence in 1947, Gujarat was part of the large, bilingual Bombay State, which included both Gujarati and Marathi-speaking populations.
The Demand for a Separate State: In the 1950s, movements grew across India for states to be reorganized based on language. In Gujarat, this led to the Mahagujarat Movement (Mahagujarat Andolan).

Key Leaders: The movement was spearheaded by Indulal Yagnik, who led the Mahagujarat Janata Parishad to demand a separate state for Gujarati speakers.

Legal Formation: Following intense protests and political pressure, the Indian Parliament passed the Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960.
Official Birth: On 1 May 1960, the Bombay State was divided into two: Maharashtra for Marathi speakers and Gujarat for Gujarati speakers.

โ€œNarasimha Jayanti is like a special day when we remember a superhero form of God who came to save a good boy and teach us that being kind and brave is always the right thing to do.โ€

๐ŸŒŸ Significance of Narasimha Jayanti
Narasimha Jayanti is a special day in Hindu culture that celebrates the appearance of Lord Narasimha, a powerful form of Vishnu.
Lord Narasimha is half-man and half-lion. He appeared to protect a good boy named Prahlada from his cruel father, Hiranyakashipu, who did not believe in God.

๐Ÿ‘‰ What does this story teach children?
Good always wins over evil
Always believe in truth and kindness
God protects those who are brave and good-hearted.

๐ŸŽ‰ Why Do People Celebrate It?
People celebrate Narasimha Jayanti to:
Remember the victory of good over evil
Pray for protection and courage
Learn to be honest, kind, and fearless
Children can think of it like a โ€œgood vs badโ€ superhero story, where goodness wins in the end!

๐ŸŒผ Importance of Celebrations in Hindu Culture
Festivals like Narasimha Jayanti are very important in Hindu culture because they:
โœจ Teach Values
They share lessons about kindness, bravery, respect, and truth.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Bring Families Together
Families pray, eat, and celebrate together, making happy memories.
๐Ÿ“– Pass Down Stories
Children learn about gods, heroes, and traditions from their elders.
๐Ÿ™ Encourage Gratitude
People thank God for protection, happiness, and life.

Tooting Bal Sanskar group wishes you all Happy Narsingh Jayanti.......
