✨ We've been swimming through the HIV-related Q&As explaining terms that can be puzzling, so...💬 PEP means post-exposure prophylaxis. It is medication you can take after a potential exposure to HIV to reduce the chance of infection. It needs to be started as soon as possible – within 72 hours of exposure.

PEP is taken for 28 days and is part of the wider HIV prevention toolkit, alongside testing, PrEP and treatment.

🎙️ What does it really take to make progress on HIV in a city as big and diverse as London?

In the latest Getting to Zero podcast, our Co-Chairs Professor Kevin Fenton and Professor Jane Anderson reflect on eight years of partnership, advocacy and community leadership.

From HIV testing and prevention to peer support, primary care and stigma reduction, they discuss what's been achieved, what we've learned and what comes next as London works towards its 2030 goals.

Today, on HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day, we honour the people who have lived through the HIV epidemic, challenged stigma, built communities and helped shape the progress we see today 🧡

Long-term survivors carry stories of resilience, loss, activism, care and hope. Their experiences continue to inform and strengthen London's HIV response.

We're proud that our very own Fast-Track Cities London team member Garry Brough is one of the contributors to Survivors: The Art of Defiance, an exhibition celebrating the lives and experiences of long-term HIV survivors.

🗓️ Check it out 9–12 June 2026
📍 Fitzrovia Chapel, London

🏳️‍🌈 Pride Month is a time to celebrate LGBTQIA+ communities and the people who transformed the response to HIV.

Activists, people living with HIV, clinicians, researchers, community organisations and allies challenged silence, fought stigma and helped create the progress we see today.

But while HIV has changed, HIV-related stigma has not disappeared.

This Pride Month, we celebrate how far we've come and recognise the work still ahead. Together, we can create a London where people feel able to test without fear, access care without judgement and live well with HIV. 🧡

💬 "It's still all new and raw for me but good to know I'm not alone."

That message, sent by someone who'd just attended a Learning to Live Well weekend course, says something important about what a new HIV diagnosis can feel like – and what the right support at the right moment can do.

The Learning to Live Well courses – delivered by Terrence Higgins Trust, Metro, Positive East and Positively UK – support people who are newly diagnosed or adjusting to their diagnosis.

55 people attended across 25 London boroughs. 80% had been diagnosed within the last three years. Participants came from varied backgrounds, ages and ethnicities – because HIV in London affects everyone.

People reported improvements in understanding their diagnosis, self-acceptance, knowing where to find support, and making new peer connections.

Knowing you're not alone changes things 🧡
