It’s already a week since we had to say goodbye to Walnuts and Honey. The shop still looks the same so it’ll take a while to realize this delightful unofficial community hub is gone. Matthew’s flavors were delicious and surprising adventures but his personal warmth and humor was as important as his cakes. Here’s hoping his next venture will be as successful and bring as much joy.

West Norwood Feast is this Sunday, 5 November, and as usual they'll have a wonderful mix of food stalls, live music and imaginative activities to keep your kids happy.

Come and join us for November Feast! Wonderful live music all afternoon, including choirs, jazz and, brand new for Feast, a klesmer band, and Spanish guitar duo at Artisans.

You can make a rocket craft at our kids craft area at Village Green, and visit the West Norwood Repair Cafe who will be at the Leisure Centre - bring your broken gadgets and electrical items along. Plus all the usual stalls and your favourite traders.

Communitea Cafe’s coconut dosa with caramelised onions is delicious - the onions are rich with spicy, tangy heat from chilies and tamarind. Impossible to say enough good things about them!

If you’d like a lasting reminder of Walnuts and Honey, pop down to pick up a plate or cup as a memento.

With the countdown on, I figure it's time to let go of a few items! Many of you have commented on my cups and saucers over the years, and I did promise I'd be selling my wares before I go.

So the time is now!

With the end date still being set for October 28th, please pop along and see if there's anything you'd like! The plants are also mostly going to be sold, but be quick... Some have already been reserved!

There’s now an amazing double menu at Beirut Gourmet as Wasfi has teamed up with Brazilians Sidneia and Graziela - they’re doing Brazilian favorites like feijoada alongside his Lebanese food. New opening hours too - 8am till 10pm.

Beirut Gourmet is back! Wasfi and his brother, also a chef, have a new menu and later hours (11am-10pm) so you can get a meal in the evenings too. The chicken skewer was deliciously succulent, and came with homemade garlic and chilli dips, rice and salad.

Sad, sad news. Matthew has brought so much more than delicious, imaginative cake flavours to South Norwood. His infectious laugh, kindness and good humour have made Walnuts and Honey a regular stop for many of us over the years.

I've been back and forth on this for the past year trying to think of an appropriate time to break the news to you all.

But with goodbyes I guess there never really is the perfect time.

This is going to get a little soppy so brace yourselves..

The long and short of it is... This will be the last couple of weeks before my little cupcake shop is closed.

To those of you who have seen the shop and myself grow from day one you will remember when my wife and i were expecting our daughter Aniyah. At the time I was sworn to secrecy..... But I'm terrible with secrets and eventually half of south london knew that we were expecting ... To the point that I would ask you guys to keep it secret from my wife that I had told you...

With that being said, you can imagine how excrutiating it has been for me to hold this news in since last September.... Its be agony!

I opened this shop knowing I wanted to sell cakes and make flavour combinations that were fun and unique... I've been so lucky and blessed that it's worked out well, and I can honestly say its been an absolute dream.

So often do you hear about the worries of a small business... financially, logistically, mentally and even physically.... But I can whole heartedly say that in all my time running the shop... These were so seldom that I often wondered if maybe I should have more issues and teething problem!

This kind of experience... Is an absolute luxury that I cannot be grateful enough for.

However, 6 years on and my life is different. It's time for a new adventure for myself and my family.

I haven't decided on an official last day yet but it will most likely be the end of October (definitely not beyond the 29th). It will be the official end of my lease here in South Norwood so that seems like a fitting date to aim for.

I will definitely do a longer and more "thankyou" filled post on my final day... But for now, I felt it was only right to let you guys know... As summer is almost over and a new chapter/season is upon us.

The shop will operate as usual until the end. And all the cakes/parties/weddings/engagements that are already in the diary between now and then will remain secured obviously!

Happy 5th Birthday to Craft Beer Cabin! They’re celebrating today with a few special brews, available for tasting (and more! 😉). Once again, they’ve teamed up with
neighbours Little Mouse, who’re offering cheese toasties today to help you stave off the dismal weather.
These two businesses have done wonders with their patch of pavement and are constantly working to create a lively public space where once we only had dusty streets.
